The 38-24 Falcon win clinched a play-off berth against Seeley-Swan next Saturday.''’ F a l c o n s e a r n b e r t h w i t h w i n o v e r W e s t The Twin Bridges Falcons clinched a berth in state Class C playoffs last Friday w ith a 38-24 victory over the West Yellow stone Wolverines. The win se cured a third place finish for the Falcon's in the District 6-C con ference. Second place confer ence finisher Lima closed out the regular season with a 48-0 pasting of the' Sheridan Pan- . thers. < TheFalepns fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter; b u t came back to post the n£xt 20 points. Twin Bridges running back Travis Gibson bulled over firom a yard out to tie the game. The Falcons then took the leadfor good When quarterback Tracy Davis capped a long drive with a two-yard touchdown plunge. Emry McAlear was then in the right place a t the right time when he picked up a Wolverine fumble and sprinted 12 yards to paydirt giving the Falcons a 20- 6 lead. West Yellowstone cut the lead to 20-12 as both teams regrouped a t the half. The two teams traded touch downs throughout the second half in the entertaining, hard hitting affair.' The Falcons scored first when Gibson again crossed the goal stripe from a ' yard out. The Bulldogs will face Rocky Mountain College next Saturday in Billings. The Western Montana Col lege rodeo te^ms traveled to Miles City over the weekend and competed against other Big Sky Region schools. The Western men finished second behind Montana State and the women finished fourth. Jesse Peterson, co-teamcap-„ tain from Helena, lead the team in total points. He won both go rounds and the average in the steer wrestling. Travis Nye, a freshman from Hamilton, won thefirstgo round ofthe calf roping. JodyWacker, junior co-captain, placed second in the second go round ofthe calf roping and won the average. Marty O'Brien, a freshman from New South Wales, Austra lia, split winning the first go round of the b u ll riding with 72 points. Teammate Shannon Wartman won the secopd go round with a score of 71 points, and finished second in the aver age. Martin Murphy, a freshman from Garrison, and partner Paula Nepine of MSU placed fourth in the firstgo round ofthe team roping. Wacker placed third with partner Keith Robin son of MSU. . Lori Robinson, a junior team member from Willow Creek, placed third in the second go round of the breakaway roping arid fourth in the average. J a y v e e / f r o s h p o s t p e r f e c t w e e k The Dillon ju n io r varsity and freshman teams posted wins in every contest played last week. The froshmore football team posted their fourth shutout in a row when they turned back Belgrade 14-Olastweek. Shawn Walker and Alan Holt scored on short touchdown runs for the Beavers. The junior varsity basketball team defeated the Butte Cen tral Jayvees 29-26 and the Belgrade junior varsity 51-49. Against Butte Central Jennifer Gaasch andVal Evans scored 10 pointa each to lead the way. Evans, Gaasch, and Bonnie, Longie scored in double ^gures in the Jayvees* win over Belgrade. Evans scored 18 points, while Longie added 11 and Gaasch dripped in with 10. The freshman girls continued their impressive play with a 62-„ 36 win over Butte Central and a T r i a t h l o n r a c e r s p o s t i m p r e s s i v e t i m e s id. ‘ Gibson gained HOyards rush ing and added another 23 yards in receiving. McAlear added 90 receiving yards as the Falcons rolled tip 339 yards in total of fense. McAlear led the defensive charges with an extraordinary 32 tackles. Davis was in on 26 stops, while Shawn Kelly added 17. “We knew that West wouldbe a tough game,” noted assistant coach Steve Davis. “We knew pretty much what they would do and hard hitting on our part caused them some costly turn overs.\ • The Lima Bears geared up tor the state Class C playoff Friday afternoon a t the expense of the Sheridan Panthers. The Bears scored early and often and held a 42-0 lead a t the half. John Stosich scored runs of 50 and 24 yards, while Dallas Jensen tallied on runs of 37, and 51 yards. Ben Stosich got into the act when he found the end zone on runs of 10 and 25 yards. The game ended by way ofthe 45-point rule when John Wendt picked up a Panther fumble and sprinted 17 yards to paydirt Twin Bridges will open the playoffs when they travel to Seeley-Swan on Saturday. Her parents are Tom and Becky Miller of Dillon. Melissa finished first In her age group and was the top woman finisher overall with atime of22:36.
