The Bulldogs b u ilt a 36-7 lead after three quarters, then held off a late Bear rally to secure their third straight victory. The Bulldogs took the open* ing kickoff and drove 63 yards for a touchdown. Mike Cutler capped the drive with a one- yard touchdown,his first ofthree on the day. Cutler sprinted to paydirt firom five yards out in the second quarter to stake the Bulldogs to a 13-0 lead a t the half. 'Western exploded for 23 points in the third frame. Bull- dogkickerMike Clemens booted aschoolrecord 48-yard fieldgoal early in the period, followed by another one-yard touchdown pluuige by Cutler. On the Bull dogs' next possession quarter back Paid Maki found Bill Polk open over the middle for a 93- yard touchdown reception. The pass play broke the back ofthe Bear defense and established a new school record. Rocky finally got on the board ploded for 23 with a touchdown pass, but a fumblerecoverybyBulldogline- backer Brett Charlton gave thS Bulldogs an insurmountable lead. Clemens' 41-yard field goal early in thefourth quarter closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Rocky scored three fourth quar ter touchdowns tomaketheecore respectable. ! Maki. completed 15 of 25 passes for 287 yards. Polk snagged six passes for 188 yards. The Bulldogs rolled up 477 yards of total offense, while Rocky was close behind w ith464. “Our offense played pretty well for most of the day,\ noted Head Coach Mick Dennehy. The offense showed good pa tience and used up a tot of the clock. “Defensively the kids played good for three-and-a-half quar ters. We got good pressure on the quarterback, the coverage on their receivers was good, and we did a fine job of stopping their running game.” Western, 4-2, will have two weeks to prepare for a road game at nationally-ranked Carroll College. - “We are going to have to pro tect our quarterback better this time against Carroll,” stressed H mw ky Katrtn W Ntarti Val Evans drives to the basket against Manhattan Christian last week. The frosh won for the tenth time in 13 tries as four players scored in double figures. Angie Skinner and Jodie Lucero poured in 20 points each to lead the Beaver scoring attack. Shanna Smith added 12 points, while Leslie Oswald chipped in with 11. The four girls accounted for all the Beaver points. The Dillon junior varsity squad was scheduled to play the Manhattan Christian varsity, number one ranked in Class “C\ polls, but the Eagles decided to leave seven of their varsity members a t home. As it tums out t^iey were not needed as the Eagles rallied from an early deficit to post a 49-31 win. Val Evans led the way for the Beavers with 13 points, while Bonnie Longie added 8. The Falcons lost to Seeley- Swan 30-20, while the Bears were crushed by the defending state champion Absarokee Hus kies 48-0. Twin Bridges matched Seeley-Swan punch-for-punch early in their contest After the Blackhawks scored the game's first touchdown, the Falcons an swered back when Travis Gi- bson bolted over from threeyards outtotiethegameat6-6. Seeley- Swan scored again in the second • quarter and took a 12-6 lead into the locker room a t the half. The Blackhawks scored again in the third quarter to push their lead to 18-6. Fourth quarter action saw Seeley-Swan score again,but theFalconsresponded with a three-yard run by quar terback Tracy Davis. Late in the period both teams would trade scores, but time would run out on the Falcons' season. Gi bson sprinted lOyards to paydirt forthe Falcons'final score. Davis added the two-point conversion • with a run to daylight Twin Bridges finished the game with 350 yards of total offense; 225 of the yards came on the ground. The Falcons finished the sea son with a 5-3 record. The Lima Bears found out why Absarokee is the number one ranked team in the state. Hie Bears could not get their offense on track, and Huskies showed little mercy as the game was called in the third quarter due to the 45-point rule. Lima was limited to one first down and only 40 yards of total of fense. The Bears finished the sea son with a 6-2 slate. The Western Montana Col lege Lady Bulldogs tuned up for the Frontier Conference play offs with three matches last week. Wednesday the Lady Bull dogs lost 15-2,13-15,15-4, and 15-12 to Montana Tech. Friday evening Western defeated the Rocky Mountain College Bears 13-15, 15-9, 15-7, and 15-9. Saturday the Lady Bulldogs traveled to the other side of B ill ings and lost 8-15, 4-15-, 15-11, and 12-15 to Eastern Montana College. .Against Montana Tech the Lady Bulldogs were led by Jenny Reynolds with 11 k ills and nine blocks. Rhonda Mailey regis tered 6 kills and 8 blocks, while Joani Mogolis added 23 assists and four service aces. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Rocky behind the strong play of Penny McCarter, Mogolis, Rey nolds, and Mailey.
