Butch Donovan, in his 15th season a t the Beaver helm, will return nine lettermen this sea son. The Beavers onty returning state place winner is senior Neil Nelspn, who placed fifth last year.That followed a fine sea son in which Nelson captured the divisional wrestling cham pionship in his weight Nelson is expected to fill the 145 weight class. . Five other seniors, JeffMaki, Reed -Pebbles, Kqy Holland, David Tommerup, and Jeremy Kraft w ill be coiuttedonfor their leadership thia season. Maki, a sfrcond place finisher atthedivinonal tournament last season,, should occupy the 119 pound class. Pebbles, fourth at divisiopalb, will wrestle a t 140; Holland, fourth at divisionals, will wrestle at 130; Tommerup, fifth a t divisionals, will wrestle 160; and Kraft, sixth a t division* als, willwrestle a t 125. B U T C H D O N O V A N Junior Jim Garrison placed sixth a t divisionals and should challenge for the 125 pound varsity spot SophomoresTyier Rebish and Jeremiah Clinton return after an impressive freshman season. Rebish placed second at the divisional tournament, while Clinton gained valuable varsity experience in his first season. Rebish will wrestle a t 112, while Clinton will wrestle at 105. Sophomores M a tt Jones, Eddie Reinhardt, Jafcon Barnes, and Dean Johnson, along with freshmen Jim Bolin,- Rob Clemow, Jeremy Gneiting, Casey Harrison, Koby Holland* Jason Howard,Tad Pilon, Brian Staley, Dan Shivley, Justin Taylor,. Brad Tommerup, Dale Young, Coiy Holt, Chris Bowker, Andy Holland, and Gerald Getz round out the roster. H o o p s h o o t e r s a d v a n c e Six area youngsters ad vanced to the District Hoop Shoot contest to be held in Sheridan Dec. 2. The local contest, sponsored by Elks Lodge 1554, attracted 393 boys and girls from Dillon between the ages of 8 through 13. Winners in the 8-9-year oldgroup were Justin Myhre who made 14-25 attempts, and Christina Boyd who sank 12-25. 10-11-year olds - Travis Reynolds (19-25), Natalie Neva (12-25). 12-13-year olds • Stephanie Blomquist (16-25), Bobby Rooley (23- 25). 14-over - Dennis Sal monsen (14-25), Sally White (18-25). Myhre, Boyd, Reynolds, Neva, Blomquist, and Rooley will advance to the district contest in their age group where they will participate against the top shootere from Southwestern Montana. Salmonsen and White will not advance to the district competition. The Elks free throw con test is the largest youth activity sponsored by any organization. The four-day tournament consisted of 24 players and 52 matches. Third place ‘honors went to Jim Hogan, while consolation honors went to Doug Sather. Bema advanced to the cham pionship match with a 15-11, 15-4 win over Hogan. In the final match of the tournament Bema squeaked by C lint Rouse by the score of 15-13,14-15, and 11-9. Rouse was a winner in h is setni- final match 15-10and 15-lloVer Mike Easton. Sather won the consolation championship with a 15-9,8-15,11-10 victory over Bob Kramer. ' George Marinkovich, intra mural director *at Western Montana College, announced that the tournament would be the last of the fall semester. A spring slate of tournaments is planned. 1 1 - C s t a r s h o n o r e d Three members ofthe Sheri dan Panthers and two Twin Bridges Falcons were honored as District 11-C All-Conference selections announced last week. Senior Danette Day from Sheridan was named to the first team, as was Leslie Perry, a junior from Twin Bridges. Second team honors went to Sheridan senior Tracy Smith and junior Kelly Ludwiek, while honorablementfoh wenttoTwin Bridges sophomore Amy Phil lips. Day averaged 12.6 points per game for the Panthers, grabbed 6.6 rebounds per contest, and dished out 2.1 assists per game. Perry scored 22 PPG, pulled down 8.8 rebounds, and con nected on 50 percent of her foul shots. Ludwiek averaged 10 PPG, 14.4 rebounds, and notch 44 blocked shots for the season. Smith averaged 6.5 PPG, 1.5 assists, and led the Panthers in three-point goals with six. Phil-, lips averaged 10 PPG, 4.7 re bounds, and connected on 47 percent of her free throws.
