A f t e r H o u r s D il l o n T r ibu n e - Wednesday, October 6,2004 B-3 AERO m eeting focuses on “Celebrating our Past, Sustaining Our Future” The Alternative Energy Resources Organization (AERO) will hold its 30th Annual Meeting “Celebrating our Past, Sustaining Our Future\ October 8 ,9,10 at Jackson Hot Springs Lodge in the Big Hole Valley. All are invited to attend this fun-filled weekend featuring field trips, workshops, and discussions on local food, sustainable farming and ranching, and renewable energy. Want to discuss ways to live more sustainably? Have you ever wanted to learn how to convert a diesel engine to biodiesel? Are you looking for answers to sustainable farming challenges? Would you like to spend a fun and relaxing weekend with a great group of folks? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then plan to attend. Friday evening Gloria Flora will kick off the event with an evening discussion on themes of sustainability and community. “I think exploring the nexus of our efforts and mapping our ideas through dialog is really the heart of community and AERO at its best. My session is designed as a discussion around the questions “How do we talk about sustainability? How do we convey this information to family, friends and co-workers? How do we work together to add value to our lives, our communities, and the future?”, says Gloria. Saturday morning guest speaker author Richard Manning will to integrate food production with intact wi.d systems. Montana has functioning systems and a vast knowledge of them. Instead of aping sustainable ag techniques from elsewhere, our real service to the world should be learning to untarne agriculture,” says Manning. Richard’s recent book Going Against the Grain: How Agriculture Has Hijacked Civilization traces the evolution of our current industrial agriculture, it’s reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels, and the accompanying impacts on the environment and the worlds cultures. Additional weekend activities include: • Speakers and discussions on local food and farming projects from across the state • Workshops, such as converting a diesel engine to biodiesel • Farmer-to-farmer sessions to share ideas and trouble shoot common issues • Field trips to a Big Hole ranch highlighting progressive c o n s e r v a t i o n p r a c t i c e s • Saturday evening dinner and contra dancing for the whole family with the Sleeping Child String Band • All Montana-grown meals • Time to relax, soak, and socialize with the AERO community and others who are committed to a sustainable future! Families are encouraged to attend and childcare will be pro vided. For more information about the event and to register, contact AERO at 432 N. Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601, phone (406)443-7272 or email aerodfaeromt.org AERO is a Montana-based nonprofit grassroots membership organization dedicated to sustainable resource use and community vitality. We promote sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and conservation, environmental quality and community self reliance. The Vigilante Theatre Company has done it again! Neon Dream is the new high-octane musical comedy by Greg Owens and Greg Keeler. In Neon Dream, the four Vigi lantes play more than 20 differ ent (and do we mean different!) characters. Each character is searching for love and adventure in and around a fictional truck stop in the Rocky Mountain west. Quarreling honeymooners are helped to reconcile by a singing janitor and a traveling actor por traying Cyrano De Bergerac. An earnest young writer is besieged by bluegrass singing zombies. Ro mance blossoms between a short- order cook and a Ukranian mail order bride during a meeting of their poetry discussion group. And, a small-town guy tries to prevent his girlfriend from leav ing by dressing up in a gorilla suit and singing her the love theme from \King Kong! The Musical\. These charmingly eccentric characters and the others who romp through this musical com edy are the creation of award winning Bozeman-based play wright Greg Owens. In comic master and lyricist, Owens has found the ideal col laborator to turn contemporary Americana on its ear. With the multi-talented Vigi lante ensemble to bring their won derfully absurd vision to the Old Depot Theatre stage, Neon Dream promises to be one of the most exciting local theatre experiences of recent memory. I ' http://Tiollywood.com/showtiiiies UNDER 17 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT The Beaverllead Hunters Ge nealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, Octo ber 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum Research Room. After the brief business meet ing, Helen DeShazo will discuss doing genealogy research in En gland. As many have ancestors front England, this should be a very helpful topic. The public is invited to attend. In other news, the Society has just completed making an index of all known m a rriages in Beaverhead County from 1867- 2003. That is an index of 10,159 marriages with 7390 unique dif ferent last names (each different spelling variant counts as a unique name). Why make an index at all if you can already find what you need at the Court House? Be cause it is the easiest and quick est way to find a name being re searched. When someone finds the name they want, it will be easy to go to the District Clerk of Court's office with the proper book and page number to get a copy of the record. A copy of this index can be found at the Mu seum Research Room, the Dillon Family History Center, and at the District Clerk of Court's office.
