They worked hard and won the next three games.\ \I know they're capable, I know they have the potential and it was good for their confi dence. I hope it continues go ing up from here.\ L-C State is most likely hav in g their poorest season on record. Earlier, they snapped an 11-match losing streak with a win over Western at their place. They came in on a two- game win streak and had . thoughts of stretching it longer after winning games one and two, 30-23 and 30-25. Western began to click and rolled to 30-25,30-24,15-12 wins for the match. Katherine Sunwall ripped a match high 28 kills and Shannon O'Keefe ' added 12. Lindsey Scott set 55 assists, served three aces, and made six digs. Sunwall was a wall at the net with four solo blocks and nine block assists. The Finals were held on the Soboda Indian Res ervation. Joining Johnson on the awards stand and representing UM-Western rodeo was team mate Megan Lunack, second in the nation in breakaway roping. Neil Tatsy, a UM-W men’s team member competed in team roping at the Finals with his dad but did not place in any of the rounds. He did however earn a generous scholarship. \I'm so proud and happy,\ said Johnson. \I'm just excited about the whole thing.\ There are 13 circuits in the United States and Canada that make up the United Indian Ro deo Association. The three UM- Western students competed in the Montana Circuit. Each cir cuit advances their year-end winner and Circuit Finals aver age champion to the National Finals. Johnson's consistency on Heidi, her 17-year-old horse, throughout the season gave her the berth as the year-end win ner of the Montana Circuit bar rel racing. Once at the Finals, she dominated the field of 26 athletes. She placed third, sec ond and second in the first three rounds to qualify for the final. SHANNA JOHNSON In the short go, with a second and a half lead, she safety-ed up to maintain her national title. She didn't place in the round, but her average time over the four rounds topped the nation. Besides a national champi onship trophy buckle, Johnson banked nearly $6,000 in prize money. She credits her mother Robin with helping train her horse and her dad for his sup port throughout her rodeo ca reer. Lunak advanced to the short go and finished third in the av erage for $2,100 in prize money. Lunak, Johnson, and Tatsy represented the Blackfeet Na tion at the rodeo.
