February 16, 2005 A-10 x : - 4 Obituaries Dorine Rose Downing Dorine Rose Downing, 68, of East Helena, died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, February 11, 2005, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Dorine Rose Downing Dorine was born September 13, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Kenneth E. and Helen M. (Bourassa) Downing. Dorine at tended Mary Innes grade school and Beaverhead County High School in Dillon. In 1954 she married Frederick (Fritz) Kambich of Melrose. To gether they spent time in Japan, California, Nevada and Missis sippi, while in the Air Force. While in Japan, she taught Japa nese children English. She was past president of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She returned to Dillon, and she and Fritz were later divorced in 1975. Surviving children from this marriage are son, Kenneth Kambich of Maryland; and daugh ters: Kim (Kambich) Arnold of Spokane, Wash.; and Kari and QuanaJilsuilit of Salt lake. City. Preceding her in death were her pa neats Kenneth E. and Helen M. Downing and her children, Kelly Yvonne, Kent Thomas and Karl Lewis Kambich. Dorine is survived by four grandchildren, three great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a sister Delayne and Rob Whorley of East Helena; brother Kenneth A. and Terri Downing of Helena; and uncle Robert and Evelyn Bourassa of Helena; aunts Rita Bourassa of Dillon and Fern (Downing) Goodman of Poison. Dorine married Robert Reis in Dillon and they were later di vorced. She was a person who cared for those that were ill or down on their luck, giving freely wherever she could to help. Memorial Day would find her decorating scores of graves, many had no one else. Her pas sions in life were her crafts--her needlepoint, crocheting and cross-stitch were outstanding. She had a hunger for knowl edge and was a massive reader of all books. Her reputation as a cook, and many of her recipes were well known far and wide. She knew she was going to a better place. She was surrounded by loved ones while passing over. She will be missed. Requiem Mass and Rosary will be at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Dillon on February 17 at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services are pend ing and will be at the Dillon Cem etery when arrangements are made in the spring. Memorials requested to the Cancer Treatment Center of St. Peter’s Hospital, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601 Richard Thomas Peterson Richard Peterson, 65, died February 2, 2005, at Barrett Memorial Hospital in Dillon. He was born June 14, 1939 to Alfred and Emma Peterson. Dick went to school at West Fox School in the Big Hole and then worked with his brother Harold on the family ranch. Dick was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed politics, music, and dancing. In his later years, he was a constant companion and helper to his mother Emma. The two lived together on the ranch until Emma passed away in 2000 at the age of 104. His gentle spirit and caring nature was a special blessing to Emma and his family. In 2002, Dick entered the Parkview Acres Convalescent Center. Dick taught those around him what it meant to love others and to live life with joy and thankful ness. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Peterson, mother, Emma Peterson, and sis ters-in-law, Margie Peterson and Elaine Peterson. Dick is survived by his broth ers, Darwin (Geneese) Peterson of Cooper Landing, AK; John Peterson of Rushford, MN; and Harold Peterson of Wisdom; and many nieces and nephew’s. The funeral service was held Monday, February 7, at the Brundage Funeral Home in Dil lon. Memorials may be made to Westland Bible Mission, PO Box 106, Lima, MT 59739 or to a char ity of the donor’s choice. Area Births Wyatt Austin Penn was born January 3,2005 to Kim Denny and Gerald Penn of Dillon. He was welcomed by his sister, Beatrice. Maternal grandparents are Ken and Geri Dye of Dillon and Bruce and Regina Denny of Whitehall. Paternal grandparents are Gerald and Cindi Penn of Deseret, Utah and Sandy Penn of San Diego, California. Marriages Bernard Ross Kailey and Alison Kimberly Herbert were married on February 4, 2005. Sheriff News February 8 11:40 p.m. An Order of Protec tion was received. 11:54 p.m. Dillon 911 was con tacted by an individual request ing an ambulance for transport to the hospital. February 9 3:43 p.m. Sheriff's Dispatch received a report of a semi-truck rollover on 1-15 south at mile marker 52. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. One individual was transported to Barrett Hospital. 6:29 p.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance was requested to transport an individual to the hospital with possible alcohol poisoning. 7:00 p.m. A California motor ist was cited for reckless driving and failure to yield to emergency vehicles on 1-15 southbound at mile marker 52. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Law Enforcement Annex when he could not post bond. February 10 5:34 a.m. Dillon Fire Depart ment dispatched to a fire in the kitchen at McDonald's. The fire was extinguished with automatic fire extinguishers. 4:48 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a pipe on a gas tanker coming loose and blocking traf fic. Highway Patrol was also no tified, 1-15 southbound Daly's Exit. 5:23 p.m. An individual called to report a dog had been hit by a semi-truck near Jim's Auto on Highway 91. The dog was taken to the small animal hospital. 6:12 p.m. The office received a report of a vehicle passing on a blind corner at a high rate of speed. The complainant agreed to sign a complaint. 7:33 p.m. LifeLine requested assistance for a client who had fallen and needed help getting up, Center Street. 9:40 p.m. A deputy was dis patched to investigate a report of a vehicle hitting a fire hydrant and fleeing the scene, Swenson Way. The deputy was given a de scription of the vehicle but it was not located. February 11 4:00 p.m. A deputy issued a speeding citation to a Great Falls motorist on 1-15. 4:05 p.m. Received a report of a hitchhiker jumping into traffic near the north interchange. 5:45 p.m. A Reserve Deputy was dispatched to a heated argu ment at the Motorcross Trail in regards to trespassing. The prob lem was resolved. 6:08 p.m. An Idaho motorist was cited for speeding, 1-15. 8:45 p.m. Advised of an aban doned vehicle. 10:54 p.m. A California motor ist was cited for speeding on Mon tana Street. February 12 1:05 a.m. A local motorist was cited for driving without a valid drivers license on Sweetwater Road. 1:57 a.m. A deputy arrested an individual for DUI after making a traffic stop for running a red light. The individual was trans ported to the Beaverhead Deten tion Center for booking. 8:43 a.m. The Sheriff's Office dispatcher notified Highway Pa trol of a vehicle slide-off on 1-15. A patrolman responded to the scene. 2:06 p.m. A local motorist was cited by a deputy for speeding, driving with an expired registra tion and no insurance, 1-15 Exit 62. 8:08 p.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance was requested to transport a player front the high school gym who had passed out. February 13 8:37 a.m. A Helena motorist was cited for speeding on High way 41. 9:54 a.m. A Reserve Deputy cited a local motorist for speed ing on Carrigan Lane. 10:17 p.m. A deputy arrested an individual after citing him for DUI, third offense, driving with a suspended license and no insur ance. Other charges may be pend ing on a previous vehicle acci dent. Police News Correction: A listing in the Polico Re port in the last edition of the Dillon Tribune incorrectly named the location of a Minor •in Possession citation on January 22 as the Dillon Bar. Sheriff Bill Briggs has announced that Beaverhead County citizens are invited to become Honorary Members of the Montana Sheriff’s and Peace Officers Association. Membership appeals go out in the mail shortly. Individuals choosing to join the program can do so for as little as $20, while businesses can show their sup port for a $40 contribution. The funding goes to important techni cal resources, training, and legist lative support on key criminal justice issues. Contributions are tax deduct ible.
