Piutt The Dillon Lady Beavers made a move over the week end to earn a first round bye at the Southwestern A divisional basketball tourney as they moved into second place with conference home wins over Stevensville, 49-21, and Hamilton, 49-36. \Now we put ourselves in a position where we control our own destiny,\ said Dillon coach Bernie Wasser. \We're shooting for second.\ More important than the first round bye is the fact that the second seed is opposite Ana conda in the bracket. The Cop perheads possess the only win ning record in the conference. \It was a very physical and rough game but we did some good things,\ said Wasser of the Thursday night win over Stevi. According to the coach, turn overs were down, post players stepped up their scoring, and the team defense played more consistent than recent outings. Dillon's 7-0 spurt to start the game instilled confidence that eventually led to a 20 point lead. Hamilton made a late run but Wasser was happy with the ef fort. Against Stevi, posts Lizzy Castro, Jenna Nield and Amanda Haugen each had eight points as Dillon's leading scor ers. Haugen added a team-high seven boards, while Kayla Shep herd dished four assist and grabbed six rebounds. In the Hamilton game, Theresa Bennett and Sammy Hahnkamp reached double digit scoring with 11 and 10, respec tively. Castro and Nield grabbed five boards each while Bennett added five assists. Piutt The Dillon Beavers finally lived up to their perimeter shooting potential to trounce Hamilton, 67-38, Friday night in Dillon. Stevensville ended Dillon's hopes of streaking into divisional, handing the Beavs an 81-65 road loss Saturday night. \From an offensive stand point, we really had some great shooting due to our passing, \ said Dillon coach Craig Finberg. \I thought we made good deci sions and we got it going from the three-point line in that sec ond quarter.\ Dillon ripped the nets with ll-of-23 success from the arc for the game, with six different players combining for eight treys in the second quarter alone. Every player on the team contributed at least one assist as Dillon totaled 18 to just 11 turnovers. Zach McRae, a sophomore guard, led Dillon with 13 points and dished a team-high five as sists. Sophomore post Chase Godecke added 10 points and a team-high four rebounds. Saturday at Stevensville, the Yellowjackets recognized their advantage in the paint and took advantage. Stevi post Brandon Johnson led all scorers with 25. ''They're a big, physical team and they really took it to us,\ said Finberg. \They took it in- side-early and often.\ Dillon's outstanding perim eter shooting stayed home as the Beavs hit just 4-of-21 three- point attempts. The 'Jackets controlled the boards with a 39- 23 edge. Dillon remained some what consistent with 15 assists and just 16 turnovers. Cory Anderson and Godecke led Dillon with 12 and 10, re spectively. McRae nabbed six rebounds to lead the team. HAMILTON SB, DILLON Dillon scoring Jnkc k crxin ft, Zach McH.n 11, Cory AntlerNon 7, Spcnutr Jenne 9. Dana ori x. John Ori H, Jeff Alien 4, Kadi- Laden 2. BCHS Boys Basketball-The Beavers will not have any easy game the rest of the way. Friday night Dillon hosts Corvallis who will be playing for the Southwest ern A's number one seed.
