They include Klders Darin Thurman. Collin Hilton, Eric Isaacson, Curtis McOsker and Keith Fairbank. DARIN THURMAN Darin Thurman Darin Thurman is serving in the California Long Beach Mis sion in southern California since September 24, 2003. He is an in an English speak ing mission, although there are Spanish and Cambodian speaking missionaries there as well. Although the area he is serv ing is small geographically, it en compasses millions of people. He has taught people from Vietnam, Samoa, Africa, Asia and other places around the world. He notes he has had many ex periences as he has learned and gained from these different cul tural groups. He says it is \an experience that I wouldn't give up for any thing in the world.\ He will return home in Sep tember and will work before re turning to school at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg. He is a 2003 gradu ate of BCHS. KEITH FAIRBANK Keith Fairbank Keith Fairbank has been serv ing in the Porto Alegre South Mis sion, on the east coast of Brazil, just north of Uruguay, for the past 12 months. The first six months of his mission he spent in two small cit ies, each about the size of Dillon, far tot he south of Porto Alegre. One of those had no post office and no paving within the city. Recently he has been serving the city of Porto Alegre. The pri mary language in Brazil is Portu guese. Most of the people there are very poor and travel is by foot or bus. Fairbank travel directly to Sao Paulo to enter the Missionary Training Center for two months to learn the local culture and be immersed in an intensive lan guage training course. From there he flew to Porto Alegre to meet his Priesthood leader and be as signed to a specific area. Although he lost 20 pounds the first month in the field, due to a change of diet to rice and beans and walking everywhere, he says he loves the people and loves working with them to find a bet ter way of life. \It's a wonderful experience,\ he notes. COLLIN HILTON Collin Hilton Collin Hilton of Dillon is serv ing the LDS Church through a mission in Brazil, at the Sao Paulo Interlagos Mission, since July of 2004 Hilton reports that \Brazil is a beautiful country\ and that he loves the Brazilian people. ''They are a very warm and friendly people,\ he says, and adds that he has enjoyed living among them and learning their language and customs. He notes he has occasional opportunities to do service projects on his mission, he par ticularly enjoys helping to each free English classes. ERIC ISAACSON Eric Isaacson Eric Lynn Isaacson is cur rently serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the West Indies. He has 10 months remain ing on his mission. He has served in many areas of the West Indies, including the islands of Barbados and St. Maarten. He is currently at Georgetown, Guyana. During his mission he has learned French, Spanish, and is now speaking Guyanese. When in St. Maarten, Elder Isaacson experienced the tropi cal storms and is now living with the flooding in Guyana. He says he loves the people he is teaching and \feels very blessed\ in his calling. Curtis McOsker Curtis McOsker is currently serving in the Macon, Georgia Mission. During his mission he has served in a number of south ern communities, including Cochran, Valdosta, Milledgeville, Blackwell and Blackshear, Geor gia, and Barnwell, South Carolina. He is now working in the Ma con, Georgia, area as a District Leader, where he says he has been \very busy.\ During his time on the mis sion, McOsker says, he has been able to serve and help many people and made many new friends. He will be coming back home in May. He notes he anxious to see old friends and start school at BYU, where he hopes to pursue his act ing and movie interests.
