V Obituaries Ray Helzer Hay Helztr of Dillon, Montana died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in the Barrett Memorial Hospital after an extended illness Ray Helzer Graveside services were held Monday, March 14,2005 in Dillon. , Ray was born in Rocksprings, Wyoming on February 19, 1935. He worked in boyhood as a pin setter at the Hardin, Montana bowling alley, on farms at hay season and at Gambles Hardware Store. Fie also attended school at Hardin. , During summers he worked on oil rigs in Wyoming and in high school, he worked as a chemist and supervisor for Holly Sugar at Hardin. He was transferred to Hereford, Texas where he was in the Toastmaster Club. Ray resided many years in Dillon. He liked to fish, cook and \vatch TV. • Ray and a friend invented a gold-mining sluice box years ago. It was sold at a sports store in Sheridan, Wyoming. Ray a|so in vented a mud-type of permanent car wax. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several cousins, aunts and uncles. His survivors are: his sister, Joyce Pattyn, of Lodge Grass, Montana and a younger brother, Jbhnhy Helzer, of Helena, Mon tana. Also surviving are his pieces, Carletta (Daryl) Bends of Lodge Grass and Connie (Harold, Jr.) Stone of Wyola, nephew, Uenry G. Pattyn of Salem, Or egon, grand nieces, Stefanie, Krin, Rachael and Lauri; grand neph ews, Scooter and Lucas, numer ous cousins and his dog, \Easy.\ ' We love you and miss you. Dominic C. Ori Dominic \Dorn” Ori, 76, died Friday at his home in Dillon, Mon tana following complications Dominic \Dorn\ Ori from surgery. Dom was born January 28, 1929, in St. Anna Pelago, Italy, the son of Cesare and Maria Ori. His family immigrated to Highland Park, Illinois where he received his education and was first introduced to the game of golf. Dom, as a young man, had many golf accomplishments in the state of Illinois. He won the State Public Links Championship on two separate occasions and rep resented the state of Illinois at the National Public Links. Dom was club champion at Beaverhead Country Club for nearly 20 consecutive years and was seniors champion several times after his retirement. He held the course record of 64 for 32 years. Dom met Patricia McFadden, the love of his life, in 1953, while she was attending Northwestern University. They married in 1953 and moved to Dillon where Dom was hired by State Farm Insur ance where he remained until his retirement in 1996. Dom was very community minded and was instrumental in the design and construction of the Beaverhead Country Club in 1963. He organized several beau tification projects in Dillon. He was a former Kxalted Ruler in Elks, and was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church. Dom was an active member of Beaverhead Country Club and Woodhaven Country Club in Palm Desert, California. Dom was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sis ter Josie, a brother John, who was killed in World War II and a granddaughter, Marissa Ori. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; son Ted and his wife, Jeannette, and their chil dren, John, Dana and Annmarie; son Keith and his wife Susan, chil dren Kellen, Alena and Briana; son Shawn and his wife, Lynn, children McKenna, Connor and McKaul; daughter Robyn Morstein and her husband Gregg, children Daniel and Allie. Funeral Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, March 22 at at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Dillon. Internment followed at the Mountain View Cemetery. • • The suggested memorial is Beaverhead Ambulance. Norma Sloan Miller Norma Sloan Miller, 76, died at her home in Dillon on March 20, 2005 surrounded by her fam ily. She and her twin brother Norman were born on October 18, 1928 in Firth, Idaho to Lyle and Edna Egbert Lockyer. They joined older brothers Merlin, Terry, Tom and Robert (Bud). They were later joined by twin brothers Jess and John and a baby sister named Noma. The family later moved to Lima, Montana where she gradu ated from Lima High School. Af ter graduation she married Tho mas F. Sloan and they raised six children. After Tom passed away in 1972 she moved to Dillon where she went to work for the US Postal Service until she retired at 62. During this time she married Willis G. Miller and they contin ued to reside in Dillon until their deaths. She made many beautiful quilts and wall hangings. She enjoyed camping and fish ing with friends and family. She was an avid gardener. She loved having her children, grandchil dren and great-grandchildren come to visit. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, two husbands, and son Randy and a grandson Patrick. She is survived by her sister Noma (Kenneth) Paige of Deer Lodge, daughter Linda (Roger) Cochran of Lima, sons; Tom Sloan of Lima, Jim (Patty) Sloan of Lima, Ted Sloan of Houston, Texas, and Kevin (Laura) Sloan of Farson, Wyoming, step children Darrell (Claire) Miller of Lima, Teresa Sneva, Phoenix, Arizona, Nora (Twerp) Dingley, Dillon, fourteen grandchildren, twelve step grand children and 6 great grand chil dren. Services will be held at the Lima Cemetery in Lima, Montana on Friday, March 25, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Adelbert John Smith Relatives in Sheridan, Mon tana received word Friday, March 11 that Adelbert John \Jack\ Smith had died in his sleep at his home in Magalia, California. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on April 12, 1923 to Adelbert (Dell) and Lucille Smith. He graduated from Sheridan High School and attended the Uni versity of Montana before enter ing the US Army Signal Corps, and serving in Europe during World War II. After the war, he entered Mon tana State College and graduated from the Utah State College in 1950 with a degree in Electronic Engineering. Jack was employed by vari ous government agencies and for 10 years worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle. Later, he moved to Oxnard, California, where he worked for the US Naval Weapons Systems Engineering Station. Upon retir ing, he made his home in Magalia. Jack was a licensed Ham Ra dio Operator, and spent many hours in that pursuit. He loved hiking in the moun tains and found great enjoyment in classical music, books, and pho tography. He was very fond of animals, and many stray cats and dogs found their way to his door. Most of all, Jack was a loving and gen erous son, brother, and uncle who will be sorely missed. Jack is survived by his sister, Delcine; four nephews and their wives, Sig (Kathy), Dan (Denise), Matthew (Susan) and Joseph (Linda) Nottingham. Also curviving are his five great nieces, seven great neph ews, two great-great nieces, an aunt, numerous cousins, and a longtime friend, Cliff Neal, who resides in Magalia. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sheridan on March 21, followed by interment with military hon ors at the Sheridan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Cemeterv, St. Judes at PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101- 9929, or to the Humane Society of Beaverhead County. Marriages Kenneth B. March 11 8:12 a.m. A deputy cited a lo cal motorist for speeding, South Atlantic St. 9:05 a.m. A California motor ist was cited for speeding, 1-15. 8:19 p.m. A local resident was cited for speeding, Highway 278. 11:59 p.m. Two deputies and a Fish, Wildlife & Parks office in vestigated a report of an indi vidual harassing a woman walk ing her dog in the Farlin Gulch area. The individual was located and issued a verbal warning. He was advised that if he did not comply with the warning, he would be arrested for disorderly conduct. March 12 No calls received. March 13 12:33 a.m. Received a report of a two-vehicle accident on Laknar Lane. One individual was arrested for DUI. 9:25 a.m. Rural 911 received a report of a stranded motorist. Montana Highway Patrol was no tified. . 6:22 p.m. Beayerhead. Ambu lance was requested to transport a male who was unresponsive to the hospital. March 14 8:26 a.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance was requested to transport a male to the hospital. 9:43 a.m. A deputy was con tacted by an individual who had been refused entrance to her resi dence by a family member. The deputy made arrangement for her to retrieve her belongings from the residence. 12:51 p.m. An individual was served and arrested for violation of conditions of bail, Beaverhead County Sheriffs Office. 3:08 p.m. A deputy was in formed of an animal complaint concerning dog droppings being thrown onto a county road. The individuals were notified and asked to stop. They agreed. 10:54 p.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance was requested to transport a female to the hospital. The fe male refused transport. The am bulance was cancelled. March IS 9:56 p.m. Received a report that someone had shot the lock off a gate. The matter is under investigation. March 16 2:45 a.m. Investigated an at tempted theft. The matter is under investigation. 10:27 a.m. The ambulance was requested to transfer a patient from Barrett Hospital to Butte St. James. 12:21 p.m. The Beaverhead Ambulance was requested to meet Life Flight at the airport. March 17 3:35 a.m. A deputy and a High way Patrol officer responded to a one vehicle accident on 1-15. One individual was transported to the hospital via private vehicle. 9:09 a.m. A one vehicle rollover was reported on 1-15 north of the Jackson interchange. Emergency personnel were dis patched to the scene. One individual was trans ported to the hospital by private vehicle. 10:46 a.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance requested to transfer a pa tient from Barrett Hospital to Butte St. James. 12:59 p.m. A deputy is investi gating a report of a gun being fired in a residential area. 3:22 p.m. Received a bad check warrant from Justice Court. 11:49 p.m. Beaverhead Ambu lance requested to transport an individual with chest pains to the hospital. March 18 10:41 a.m. Dillon Fire Depart ment was dispatched to a vehicle fire, 1-15 southbound. 10:59 p.m. A deputy issued a speeding citation to a Montana motorist, Highway 41. March 19 9:05 a.m. A Michigan motorist was cited for speeding on 1-15. 11:22 a.m. An individual spoke to a deputy in regards to a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stolen from the Fish Trap Fishing Ac cess Site. The deputy informed the individual that the theft oc curred in Deer Lodge County and he should contact the Sheriffs Office there. March 20 12:09 a.m. Two deputies at tempted to arrest an individual on an active warrant out of Idaho. When the vehicle in which he was a pasienger was Stopped, the In dividual took off on foot. An extensive search was made but the individual could not be located. 2:47 p.m. Highway Patrol and the Lima Fire Department were dispatched to a one vehicle rollover on 1-15. There were no injuries. City Court David S. Hulton pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly con duct, fined $110 on each count, sentenced to 10 days jail.
