Eastern Montana College of Education, Billings Vol. 11, No. 11 December 5, 1957 The Yellowjackets have a number of good players on the string this year as preparations are being mad,e, for the season. It will open Friday night in the Eastern Gym as the Hornets play the Chadron Eagles. The possible starting line-up pictured above is Kenneth Benner, Gene Espeland, John Dracon, Gene Kiser, and Jim Haugen. NEBRASKANS MEET YELLOWJACKETS TO OPEN CAGE SEASON Plan Christmas Prom Saturday The Christmas Prom, which is the formal dance at Eastern dur- ing the Fall quarter, will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The prom will be held later than usual because of the basketball game between the Yel- lowjackets and the Ch ad r on Eagles. Couples will dance to the gay holiday music of Larry Lyons and his orchestra. Pine cones, a Christmas tree, and other tradi- tional decorations will add to the evening of festivities. Gold and silver roping will be hung from the rafters of the Student Union ballroom. Activity and Guest Cards will be honored for admission at the door. Guest Cards will be avail- able until 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. David Ivey is chairman of the Prom committee. Assisting him are Jennie Stenson, Roxie Lind- sey, Liz Reno, Sonja Bjornson and Nancy Englehardt. Mike Moriar- ty and Ron Pering are in charge of publicity and Danny Fowler heads the entertainment commit- tee. The annual Christmas concert that has come to be looked for- ward to by many of the citizens of Billings will be held this year in the Administration Building Auditorium at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, according to Prof. George F. Boyer, chairman of the music de- partment. The Madrigalians singers, the band, men's and women's ensem- bles, and a mixed chorus will com- bine their musical offerings for the program. The 50-piece band will open the concert with \Amparito Roca\ by Texidor, \Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral\ by Wagner, \The First Suite in E Flat\ by Holst and \Knightsbridge March\ by Coates. The 12 women of the ensemble will sing, \Wind Through the Olive Trees\ by Gordon and \Children Before the Infant Jes- us\ by Brambach. \Mary H ad a Baby,\ composed by Dawson, and \The March of Three Kings\ by Smith, will he sung by a four-man ensemble. STUDENT LEGISLATURE Members of the Student Legis- lature passed a resolution unani- mously at their meeting Tuesday night to ask the Student Union Board to have a representative at the next Legislature meeting to explain its action in raising the price of coffee in the Student Union to 10 cents. At the same meeting, Sue Thompson was chosen as chair- man for the 1958 Homecoming Committee. Sue will make plans for the Homecoming with faculty members and other stu- dents and alumni during the late winter quarter and spring quar- ter of this year. Rimrock Pictures Friday The last opportunity for many students to have their pictures taken for the 1958 Rimrock will be Friday of this week, Dec. 6. The Rimrock photographer will be in Room 103 of the Ad. Bldg. from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Every student is entitled to have his picture in the Rimrock as long as he furnishes a copy of it to the staff. One dozen prints of your picture are made for the 75 cents which you pay at the time of hav- ing the picture taken. The Madrigalians will sing a medley of carols. Selections will include a Czech melody, \Sing We Noel\ arranged by Henninger; a Burgundian carol, \Willie Take Your Drum\ arranged by Strick- land, and \Trees Do Moan,\ a North American Christmas song arranged by Gaul. The mixed chorus, made up of 40 students, will sing \Newborn\ arranged by Work, \Christmas Snows of Sweden\ arranged by Gaul, and \The Hallelujah Chor- us\ from the \Messiah\ by Han- del. The band and mixed chorus will be featured in \Three Songs for Christmas\ by Grundman. The last carol on the program, \Noel arranged by Prescott, will be sung by the four singing groups, accompanied by the band. Singers in the concert will be directed by Mr. Boyer and Arthur F. Humphreys of the music de- partment. The band will be conducted by Richard J. Colwell, band director. Holiday Meet For Alums The annual holiday Alumni meeting at Eastern will be held Saturday, Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m. according to Frank W. Kology, president of the Alumni Associa- tion. It will be in the Student Union Lounge. Chairmen for the annual event selected by the Executive Com- mittee are Miss Peggie Denney, a graduate from last year's class and Stan Allred who was president of the Student Legislature in 1955- 56. Miss Denney is now teaching in the Broadwater School and Allred is a teacher at Lockwood. Tentative plans are to try to get Fred Orton to present numbers on his chord organ for the dinner and a member of the Magicians Order to make a spacial presentation for the alumni. Alumni activities during the past year have taken on added significance with larger attend- ance at all of their functions. A good turnout is anticipated for the holiday event. Faculty members are extended a special invitation to attend the dinner, Miss Denney has an- nounced. William Fox, who is a member of the Executive Committee, has been named chairman to present a slate of officers for the coming year. Other nominations may be made from the floor by alumni members. Any student who has been reg- istered at Eastern is eligible for membership in the Alumni As- sociation. A good response has been shown from the campaign launched recently to obtain paid membership and contributions toward special alumni projects. Hornets Meet Chadron Eagles The Eastern Hornets will meet the Chadron Eagles from Nebras- ka State Teachers College Friday and Saturday nights on the hard- wood at Eastern. It will be the first collegiate game for the Yel- lowjackets for the 1957-58 season. Coach Allen Feldner has named the following as a possible start- ing line-up in the game Friday: Ken Benner, John Dracon, Gene Espeland, Jim Haugen, and Gene Kiser. A scrimmage game was played last week against the Security Bankers. According to Coach Feldner, both Espeland and Kiser looked good. Injuries have already taken their toll among the Yellowjack- et players. Both John Deeney and Jack Dunlap are out with injur- ies. Deeney is crippled with bad knees and Dunlap's finger is still in a cast. The Eagles have already seen two contests and so will have an advantage of experience this sea- son. Among players to watch when the Eagles tangle with the Hornets will be Bill Robinson, Don Parsley, and Bud Murray. The game Friday will start at 8 p.m. and the game Saturday, will begin at 7 p.m., according to Coach Feldner. To Mail Grades Grades for the Fall Quarter will be mailed to the students' home address, according to Oscar L. Alm, registrar. Plans are to put them in the mail on Tuesday or Wednesday, Dec. 17 or 18, Mr. Alm said. Music Department Sets Concert
