EIMIC Vol. 11, No. 12 Eastern Montana College of Education, Billings January 9, 1958 Eastern Travels, Will Play Carroll and Havre This Weekend Band Tours With Bees Friday morning a chartered bus will leave Eastern's campus with members of the Eastern band and their director, Mr. Richard Col- well. The Eastern majorettes will accompany the band on their first tour of winter quarter. The band and majorettes will perform at the Yellowjacket- Saints game at Helena Friday night and at the Havre game with the Northern Lights on Saturday night. The first stop of the tour will be Helena, where the band will give a concert in the rotunda of the capitol building for Governor Aronson and his staff. A tenta- tive program for the 4 p.m. con- cert includes \Fascination \First Swedish Rhapsody,\ \Summer Skies,\ \On the Mall,\ \Nutmeg- gers March\ and \First Suite in F.\ The state song, \Montana and the Eastern \Alma Mater\ will also be featured. A solo will be sung during the concert by Elisa Phelps. The majorettes will perform a military drill and Eva Bird will be featured in an acro- batic act. Next on the agenda will be a tour of the capital and grounds and the Russell Museum. After dinner, the group will perform at the Harvey Hotel before leaving for the Carroll College campus for the evening game. Saturday, the group will journey to Havre. En route they will tour Malstrom Air Force Base. Their evening concert will be at the Hotel Grand at Havre. After the concert, they will follow the Yel- lowjackets to Northern Montana College to attend the game with the Northern Lights. Forty-nine members of the band will make the trip. Majorettes accompanying the band include Marilynn Sheard, Liz Reno, Mari- lyn Schwalger, Leatha Nelson, and Linda Daugaard. LIBRARY HOURS day, the library will be open in Library hours for the winter quarter have been announced by Mr. Chester Roberts, librarian. According to Mr. Roberts, the library will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Monday through Thurs- (Continued on Page 3) Rimrock Pictures Do you want your face recorded in the pages of Eastern's history? Rules Formulated For Membership In fairness to active members of the Student Education Associa- tion, the following rules have been adopted to determine active mem- bership: 1. Constant attendance at all meetings shall indicate that a member is active. 2. Night classes are excused ab- sences and shall be considered as attendance. 3. Excuses for absence will be written or given to the Secretary of SEA. 4. Any unexcused absence will result in an inactive membership classification unless one partici- pates actively on a committee. 5. Committee chairmen will meet after each meeting and, at times, determines the status of formerly inactive members. The Student Association is the Montana Education Association of college students. The membership drive will end sometime before the next meeting Monday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in joining SEA should contact some SEA member before or during the next meeting. At the last meeting, Fred Hein, a Yellowstone Youth Guidance counselor, spoke on objectives and methods of a guidance program in the public schools. President of SEA is Bill Abra- hamson. Check Teacher Placement Positions The Teacher Placement Bureau urges all students who plan to complete their work for a Teach- ing Certificate to check the Place- (Continued on Page 4) Coach Allen Feldner and his Yellowjackets will be seeking their first conference win this weekend when they meet the Car- roll College Saints at Helena 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, and again the following evening at 8 p.m. when they clash with the North- ern Lights at Havre. .Feldner rates the opposition as two of the toughest in the confer- ence. \Carroll Feldner states, \is a good tough ball club, but I think we can beat them. Our team looked great at Lewistown. They are getting used to my sys- tem of play.\ Havre, whom the 'Jackets will meet for the first time is rated thus: \A good ball club . . . they have a lot of height.\ Havre, Western and Rocky are rated as the top conference teams 5y Eastern's cage coach, but he did not rate them in any partic- ular order. Players making the trip are Ken Benner of Charlo, Fred Black- man of St. Ignatius, John Deeny, UCCF Promotes Spiritual Interest Student interest is the key fac- tor in the development of any or- ganization. The United Campus Christian Fellowship under the guidance of Mr. William Williams, admissions director, is a very new organization on our campus. The group was first organized under the auspices of four local churches: The First Christian, First Congregational, First Meth- odist, and the First Presbyterian. However, membership is NOT re- stricted to members of the above instance mentioned churches. Members of any protestant church are welcome. Plans for future meeting of the UCCF were disclosed as follows: Next week, Jan. 15, Rev. Bob Adams of the First Christian Church will give a talk on \The Quest for an Intelligent Founda- tion for Christian Faith,\ after which the group will discuss the subject. Other plans include a party which is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 29, at the home of Klairaine I Green. Reed Point; John Dracon, Buf- falo; Jack Dunlap, Lewistown; Gene Espeland, Westby; Tom Flom, Eveleth, Minn.; Jim Haugen, Sidney; Bill Hilton, St. Ignatius; Gene Kiser, Green River, Wyo.; Bob Winters, Billings, and Bill Blakely of Absarokee. Feldner will probably place Haugen, Kiser, Espeland, Dracon and either Benner or Flom on the starting five. Eastern lost an able guard when Jon DeBourg of Red Lodge did not return to college this quarter. Also making the trip will be Feldner's right-hand man, Paul Povilaitis of Billings.
