Humphreys will direct the choral groups in a Spring Concert Wed- nesday, May 28 at 8:15 in the Ad- mnistration Building Auditorium. The mixed chorus and the Ma- drigalians will sing several selec- tions with Elissa Phelps and Verna Abbot as the featured soloists. The brass choir and a brass sex- tet with organ accompaniment, will also perform. Pictured is Mike Mansfield who will speak for the Com- mencement Exercises June 1 at 8:15 p. m. in the Administration Building gymnasium. Mr. Mans- field is the U. S. Senator from Montana. COMMENCEMENT BALL SET SATURDAY Dancing to the music of Addi- son Bragg and his popular five- piece band will provide the setting for the final farewell to the Sen- ior class of 1958 on Saturday, May 24 at 9 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. The Commencement Ball is sponsored by the Junior class and is their annual tribute to the Sen- ior class. All Eastern students and faculty members are invited to attend the prom and help the graduating class celebrate the oc- casion. This year's theme is especially appropriate for the occasion. The feelings of the graduates will be expressed in the decorations which has as the theme, \Entrance into Heaven.\ Faculty guests for the dance will be Dr. Harold Alterowitz, Mr. Joe Vacek, and Mr. Allen Feldner. Committees working to make the dance a success are Carolyn Carlat, decorations; Sonja Dawson, refreshments; Leo Schlenker, Rog- er Koch, and Pete Elliot, ticket takers; Carolyn Carlat, publicity; Josephine Carnate, Ward Fenton, Schlenker, Andy Foresburg, Koch and Miss Carnate, clean-up. AWARDS ASSEMBLY SET FOR TUESDAY A special convocation will be held Tuesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. to honor Eastern students for out- standing achievement in scholar- ship and activities during the past academic year. Some of the awards have been made during the year, and the winners are now to be publicly honored; most of the winners, however, are now to be announced for the first time. Awards range from purely hon- orary recgntion to scholarships valued at several hundreds of dol- lars. All have been presented by various friends of Eastern. Winners are students who have displayed extraordinary qualities of scholarship, character, promise, and need, as well as participation in extra-curricular a ctivitie s. Their work has been done in such widely divergent subjects as ac- counting, art, chemistry, conser- vation, dramatics, education, en- gineering, journalism, mathemat- ics, music, physical education and special education. To speed the awarding of so many prizes, the Scholarships Committee will not ask individual students to come to the stage. In- stead, the winners will be asked to stand and be recognized as the awards are announced. Eastern's band, under the direc- tion of Mr. R. J. Colwell, will pro- vide the music, and President Her- bert L. Steele will speak briefly on the significance of the awards. Winners of track and baseball letters will also be announced. All students and faculty members are urged to be present to honor these students. To Distribute Rimrock The 1958 Rimrock will be given out after the Awards Assembly, May 27, in the Student Union building, according to the co- editors, Marvin Carter and Mar- lene Haskin. Students who have attended three quarters this year will re- ceive the Rimrock free; students who have attended two quarters this year will be charged $1; and students who have attended only one quarter must pay $2. Others must pay $3 to obtain an annual. Dedication of the 1958 Rimrock will be announced by Carter and Miss Haskin at the Awards As- sembly. This year's Rimrock will have a pearl design on the covers com- memorating the 30th anniversary of the college. The present cam- pus will be shown as it appeared 30 years ago and the first faculty during the college year 1927-28 will be featured. This year's Rirnrock will have 46 pages more than that of last year which was the largest to that time. More space than ever be- fore has been devoted to class pictures, sports, club activities, Eastern traditions and advertising. Finale for Graduating Students to be Sunday Commencement and Baccalaureate exercises have been set for graduating students. Baccalaureate services have been scheduled for 2:30 p.m., June 1, and Commencement exercises are scheluled for 8:15 p.m. that same day. Bill Abrahamson will serve as marshal for the Senior class; Dr. George Rollins will serve as grand marshal, and Dr. Thomas Moriarty will serve as marshal for the faculty.
