ma— V Warren Frank Vol. 12, No. 11 Eastern Montana College of Education — Billings December 12, 1958 CHRISTMAS CONCERT SUNDAY Frank Awarded Baton Features Brass Choir By EMCOE Band Board And Madrigal Singers Warren Frank, a 19 - year - old sophomore from Laurel, has been appointed student conductor o f Eastern's band, according to Jan La- Valley, newly elected publicity chairman. Frank, who will share the podium on alternate nights with Mr. Richard Colwell, band director, will conduct during basketball game half-time shows and at other on-campus band appearances. Frank was picked by the recently organized Band Board from a three student conductor tryouts. Members of the Band Board, which will discuss problems of the band, get the viewpoints of mem- bers, recruit new members, and schedule events, are Mark Wilson, Coleharbor, N. D., wardrobe mana- ger; Miss LaValley, Fairfield, pub- licity chairman; Charles McCartney, Lewistown, and Kay Vesely, Laurel, librarians; Bud Ridenour, West Glacier; Virginia Williams, Livings- ton; and Pat Nelson, Lewistown. The Band Board presented its first recital Monday in the multi-purpose room of the Education Building. A tour through southeastern Montana and northern Wyoming is being planned by Phillip Murry, Laurel, band manager, and Frank. Prom Set for Saturday Should Old St. Nick climb down the chimney of the SUB tomorrow night about 9 p. m. he would soon forget his presents to waltz around the floor to the music of Ted Doll's orchestra at the Freshman Christ- mas Prom. After an evening of fun he would rush his cutie to the dorm, for late hours are in effect and she must be in by 2:00 a. m. Then off goes Santa showering thanks on John Frazier, Barbara Finn and Carole Cowan, Freshman class officers; praises on Kay Keiser, Beverly Polesky, Betty Wilson, and Carole Cowan for their work on the committees and blessings on Dora and Zona Dallman for chaperoning the evening. The Madrigal singers and the Brass Choir, student musical groups at Eastern Montana College, will present their Christmas concert of songs and music to the public in the Student Union Building Sunday, Dec. 14 at 8 p. m., Dr. A. F. Humphreys announced today. The Madrigals, under the director- ship of Dr. Humphreys, will fea- ture soloist Elissa Phelps of Billings, a sophomore. The group will sing \No Candle There Was and No Fire,\ by Lehman; \Sing We Noel,,\ a Czech carol by Henninger; \The Twelve Days of Christmas,\ ar- ranged by Nightingale; \Christmas Snows of Sweden,\ arranged by Gaul; \Fire Fire My Heart,\ by Morely; \Early One Morning,\ ar- ranged by Dunhill and \You Stole My Love,\ a modern madrigal by Macfarren. Dr. Humphreys said that the Brass Choir, under the baton of Richard Colwell, will feature soloist Mary LaRowe, a sophomore from Circle and that Amelia Madison, a senior in musical education from Absarokee, will conduct the majority of the Choir's selections. The Choir's program consists of \Rhapsody for Brass,\ by Meyers; a scherzo by Mozart and other selec- tions.
