Eastern Montana College of Education Vol. 12, No. 16 Billings, Montana January 30, 1959 Six Students to Run For EMCOE Sweetheart Six candidates for Eastern's Sweet- heart are up for student vote with the winner to be announced Feb. 14 at the Sweetheart Ball to be held in the SUB. Classes met Tuesday and chose candidates; two from the Freshman class, two from Sophomore and one from Junior and Senior classes. Stu- dents will vote for the candidates Feb. 13. The dance will feature mu- sic by The Magic City Five from 9 to 12 and the crowning of Eastern's sweetheart by Sophomore President Dick Kauk. The sophomore class was the first to announce its candidates, Barbara Matelich and Delores Ulstad of Ana- conda, majors in elementary educa- tion. Barbara is a member of East- ern's speech honorary, Phi Kappa Delta, and a member of Ski Club. Delores is a member of the Spurs, mixed chorus, and the annual staff. Both are 19 and graduated from Ana- conda High in 1957. The senior class was the next to announce their candidate, Pamela Fellows, elementary education major from Shelby, Montana. Pamela trans- ferred fall quarter to Eastern from MSC. She likes animals and her fa -vorite pastime is horseback riding; she also lists western music as a favorite. The junior class elected Sue Bryn- gelson as their Sweetheart candidate. Sue's major is also elementary edu- cation and she claims Billings as her hometown. Sue is a member of Stu- dent Legislature and is active in many campus activities. The freshmen were last to an- nounce their candidates, Elva Thomas and Glenda Wagner. Elva is an edu- cation major and hails from Anacon- da. Glenda, a pre-nursing student from Billings, was a member of East- ern's majorette corp and was a Kam- pus Kutie in the EMCOE. Audubon Screen Tour Features Naturalist Dr. Alfred M. Bailey, well-known naturalist, will appear Thursday at 8 p. m. in the Lincoln Jr. High as a speaker for the National Audubon Society, Mr. William F. Hoheisel, in- structor in Eastern's Science Depart- ment, announced today. \Wildlife Down Under,\ the sub- ject of Dr. Bailey's talk, will be about wildlife in western Australia and the beautiful tropical vegetation there. One of the most thrilling events of Bailey's journey was the filming in color of bamboo in bloom, a rare sight since it flowers only once every twenty-five years. In his life-long study of wildlife of other lands, Dr. Bailey has visited five continents. His work has taken him to such places as the Hawaiian Islands, Siberia, Arctic and South- eastern Alaska, Europe, the Egyptian Sudan, and with the famous bird ar- tist, Louis Agassiz Fuertes, to Abys- sinia. Bailey's many accomplishments include authorship of the book \Birds of Arctic Alaska,\ and the exception- ally well illustrated \Birds of Colo- rado,\ now at press. He has contri- buted articles to numerous maga- Jeans and Such Just Too Much Dean of Women Carol Saunders said today that women students are not to wear jeans, pedal pushers, or shorts on campus when school is in session. This includes night classes. Also under no circumstances is clothing of this sort to be worn in the Administration building. Slacks are permitted in certain courses as requested by the instructor, and resi- dents of the Women's Residence Hall may wear their gym uniforms to Physical Education Classes if they wear full length coats enroute, she said. Dean Saunders also requested that clothing of this type not be worn in downtown Billings except when wea- ther conditions warrant such dress. These regulations were compiled during the 1956-1957 school year by a committee consisting of Women's Residence Hall members and the staff. Students are urged to support and cooperate with the regulation in order that high standards for East- ern may be maintained, Dean Saun- ders concluded. Open House at W.R.H. Open House at the Women's Resi- dence Hall will be held Sunday, from 3 to 5 p. m., Dean of Women Carol Saunders announced today. The residence hall recently in- stalled new tiling and beds and some new furniture. Some improvements have been added to the lounge also. The lounge and all students' rooms will be opened for inspection during the Open House. Committees announced by Eula Wirz, president of the Women's Hall Council, were: Invitations, Annie Larson, Harriet Baron and Georgian Andrews; Refreshments, Sharon Parker, Sharon Patek and Darlene Vesely; Hospitality, Virginia Wil- liams, Anna Jimeno, Sharon Powers and Margaret Frank. Miss Wirz, Dean Saunders and Mrs. Rose LaBart, W.R.H. Head Resident, will receive guests. zines, including \Frontier \Nature \National Geographic,\ \Condor \Auk \Wilson Bulletin\ and others. Mr. Hoheisel said Eastern students will be admitted on their activity cards and they may bring guests.
