Pi Kappa Delta, national speech honorary, has scheduled a Mardi Gras mixer dance Feb. 21, Betty Hooker told an EMCOE report- er today. Clubs and other campus organiza- tions at Eastern will nominate a King Rex candidate. Popular vote will decide the winner and he will be crowned during the intermission. Miss Hooker stated that masks should be worn by all attending and that prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Costumes will be judged by officers of PKD and its sponsor, R. C. Grover, Eastern's di- rector of forensics. Speech Correction Course Scheduled Dr. Halvor Hansen, Director of Special Education at Eastern, an- nounced that he will offer a course in speech correction for parents who have children with speech defects designed to prevent and correct speech disorders. The speech correction expert said many parents have expressed to him a desire to learn how to help the child in the home. The course would extend the period of learning of the child to almost all of his waking hours, Hansen said. He feels that teacher and parent should know more about speech problems, thus enabling both to help the child. At present Eastern is offering a course in speech correction in its teacher training program. A course for parents in speech cor- rection, for the purpose of better understanding the child with a speech problem, is a whole new concept in speech ccrrection technique and would be a course unique in the Mid- land Empire, if not in the whole country, Dr. Hansen concluded.
