Sports ~~~~;~~t~P a Championship With the season in full swing, the Hellgate volleyball team will be looking to try and get into the playoffs after being denied a berth by Helena High School who went on to lose to a tough Billings Senior team. The Knights have a veteran team wi~h five out of the thirteen spots being filled by seniors, and returning · coach Christine Hiller-Claridge who has been coaching the Knights for four ye~rs. Senior Kailey Pfaff said \I feel like we are a very strong team and have a lot of talent and potential in the team.\ Mter being knocked . off so close to the po · stsea- son last year, the Knights are hungry to get back into the playoffs. \We are hoping to go to state and be successful there,\ said Pfaff. \Every girl is drooling over the possibility of going to state and it's a real- ity this year\ said coach Hiller-Claridge. Early in the season the Knights played in the Great Falls Invite where they placed 3rd in the consolation brack- et. \We didn't do very well in the tourna- ment, however we came out knowing who we were going to be as a team and what areas we needed to work on and that's usually my goal for that weekend,\ said Hiller-Claridge on the Great Falls Invite. Hellgate is looking forward to the Missoula Invite, where they took 2nd place last year. ''The tournament should be good, it's always more of a fun time with good competition,\ said Pfaff. Hiller- Claridge felt that last year's Invite was a \really nice culminating experience for all the players and allows for a great second chance to view the other teams in the 13 conference.\ Hellgate's conference-play hasn't been great, going 3-4 and standing in 4th place for now. Hiller-Claridge wants the team to focus on, ''balancing the roller coaster out,\ and staying consistent in their team play. ''Right now we are tied for 4th but I'd like us to get up to 3rd place. This season's start has been very good and positive, since we have won quite a bit of games, it gives us the momentum for the season which we need,\ said Pfaff when asked about their season. The Knights will end their season with the Missoula Invite and a road trips to Butte, Glacier, and Helena Capital. Hellgate will be hoping to capture their second championship in school history. • • • Putting One.
