(Blahs Chanticleers The Chanticleer club elected their remaining officers at the first m eet ing held on Monday, October 11. Evelyn Gregg was elected to serve as vice-president and Betty Newlon was elected secretary-treasurer. It was decided that the club would carry on its activities this year. In addition to the regular meetings, extra meetings may be called to complete special work. The editor and assistant editor for the Montanomal were chosen from the journalism class. Music Club Elections to fill in the offices left vacant from last year was the object of the Music club meeting held Oc tober 19. Mildred Flanigan of W hitehall was elected secretary; June Tasa, Froid, vice-president; Betty Ben nett, Garrison, treasurer, and M ar garet Dimmick, Missoula, reporter. President Jeanette Spaberg named as an excuse committee, Betty Ben nett, Evangeline Cobum, and Mil dred Flanigan. Reports on singers and composers were given by June McDonald and Anna Fries. Record ings were then enjoyed by the group. Betty Newlon and Mildred Flanigan will be in charge of the next meeting’s program. K.Z.N. Alice Davis was elected vice president and Eileen Grimes secre tary-treasurer of the K.Z.N.’s Wed nesday, October 20. The president, Vera Nelson, was elected last spring. Kappa Zeta Nu, the social sorority of the College, made several secret plans to be carried out at future meetings. Pledging of new mem bers will not take place until next semester. K.K.’s Kampus Kadets held a meeting in the dormitory on October 7. The members voted to have the organi zation go inactive for the duration of the war. Kampus Kadets is a pep club which was organized in 1932, and now is under the direction of Miss Mathews. The requirem ents the club holds are good s c h o l a r ship, loyalty to M.S.N.C., and sports manship. Members attend all foot ball and basketball games of the Bulldogs often featuring drills be tween halves. M argaret Dimmick was elected president of the organization last spring. Mrs. W ilbur Squires is teaching physical education during the ab sence of Miss Hamer. Mrs. Squires teaches badminton, swimming and folk dancing classes. Mrs. Squires was formerly Helen Rogney, a grad uate of the Normal College in 1937. We Welcome the Students of Montana State Normal College Dorothy Webber Writes Patriotic Play for Grades Miss Dorothy Webber, 1926, a teacher of the first grade at the Blaine school in Butte, is the author of a play, “We Are the Keepers” which appears in the October issue of The Instructor, classroom teach ers’ magazine. The Instructor says in part, “This pl'ay about the discoverer of Amer ica will be a good one to present for a Columbus Day program because it shows things that children can do to keep America free.” FOUR ARE ELECTED TO STUDENT ACTIVITY Betty Newlon, Kathleen Tschache, Margaret Dimmick, and Evelyn Kennedy were elected to the Stu dent Activity committee. The vot ers of this election were the entire student body. Previously eight members were nominated, the other four being Jean Ellsworth, Dale Thompson, Vera Nelson, and Jane Millikin. WAR CONDITIONS CALL M.S.N.C. FACULTY TO NUMEROUS PLACES (C o n tinued from page 1) taught American history there last summer. His predecessor is serving in the U. S. Army. Pvt. Vernon H. Taylor, music- violin, is located at Madison, Wiscon sin. He has been in the finance office of the army air forces. He states that to date he has had no basic training. Mrs. Helen Luebben, Spanish, has resigned due to the lack of enroll ment for Spanish classes. Elizabeth Shotwell, supervisor of primary grades, has also resigned. Anna C. Moser, dean of women and instructor in social studies, has been granted an extended leave of absence. She is now in San Diego. Paul Anderson, director of train ing school, is a civilian instructor in the U. S. Army. His headquar ters are at the Presidio in San Fran cisco. Now she, too, is on leave of absence and teaching Eng lish to cadets at the State Univer sity at Missoula. Among training school teachers who have resigned are Frances Clare who is now teaching in Salt Lake City. Ruth Eraker is in Cut Bank, Montana. Mabe'l Hawkinson is at Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where she is teaching in public schools. John Julia McMahan, Who is also teach ing, is at the state college in Mem phis, Tennessee. Esther Oehring is teaching a combined kindergarten and first grade in Spokane, Wash ington. New Teachers New teachers of the training school faculty include three gradu ates of M.S.N.C., Ethel Jarussi, Mary Louise Hilden, and Mary Lou ise Purdy. They are all degree graduates and experienced teach ers. Other new teachers are Mrs. Edna Schenk Moe, who holds an A. B. from the University of Washington, and who has had special music training and graduate work at the Minneapolis College of Music. She is in charge of the music in the training school. Teaching domestic science in the seventh and eighth grades is Miss Marjorie Bell, degree graduate of the University of Min nesota at Minneapolis.
