New coach means new ideas for team by Kristy Gilreath Staff Writer With more than 30 applicants applying for the head coaching position of the number-one-ranked NAIA Region I Lady Saints Volleyball team, the position was awarded to for mer Carroll vol leyball player, Maureen “Moe” Boyle, 35. Boyle grew up in Butte and played volley ball at Montana Tech before she transferred to Carroll College. In 1993 she earned her math degree from Carroll and went on to teach high school math. Boyle taught and coached at Capital High School in Helena and then went on to coach and teach at Flathead High School in Kalispell. While coaching at Flathead, her team won the state championship, which Boyle says is one of her biggest coaching accomplish ments. After leaving Flathead, she began coaching the 3-27 volley ball team at Beloit College, in Beloit Wisconsin. After two years, the team’s record was 26-12. When the coaching position at Carroll College opened up, Boyle said it was a very attractive posi tion. She would be coaching the 13th-ranked national volleyball team, and would also be coming back home. “My biggest goal for the team right now is recruiting,” said Boyle. She feels they are a little behind since she got such a late start. Boyle says the team’s goal for next season is to win a national championship. She is eager to Maureen “Moe” Boyle, help them reach new head volleyball coach, is excited that goal. “to get the season started.” Sophomore set ter, Katie Polette, had the opportunity to participate in one of Boyle’s summer volley ball camps in high school. “She has a good coaching style and will be a great asset to our team,” said Polette. According to Boyle, the Lady Saints have three tournaments in April. “It will be exciting to get the season started,” said Boyle. Volleyball prepares for first tournament by Kristy Gilreath Staff Writer The Lady Saints Volleyball team will be starting off their pre season with their new head coach in April. Maureen Boyle has been named the head coach of the Lady Saints volleyball team. Boyle said she is looking forward to the upcoming pre-season tournaments in Great Falls, Dillon, and Butte. The tournaments will start April 1st in Dillon, Mont., said Carroll setter, Katie Polette. According to Polette, the team will travel to Butte the following weekend and then to Great Falls. Carroll College will be playing other Frontier Conference teams as well as MSU-Billings and a couple of alumni teams, said Polette. The team will also play in a few unscheduled tournaments this summer. Regular season will be announced this fall, said Polette. This will be Boyle’s first time coaching the Lady Saints. “I am glad to get the season started and prepare for the 2005 season,” said Boyle. From the locker room by Ashley Moore Intern Writer Men’s Basketball: Congratulations to the Men’s Basketball team for making it to the NAIA Tournament and advancing to the final four. No team in the Frontier Conference has ever made it to the final four rounds. Another congratulations is in order for senior, Andy Brown for he has named the Frontier Conference Most Valuable Player. Also Head Coach Gary Turcott received the honor of the Frontier Conference Coach of the Year along with Westminister’s coach Tommy Connor. This is the farthest any Carroll women’s team has gone. Congratulations also to junior, Emili Woody being named the Frontier Conference Most Valuable Player. Also Head Coach Shawn Nelson was nominated as the Frontier Conference Coach of the Year. Jolene Fuzesy was named Freshman of the Year.
