www.carroll.edu The Prospector M attix on M usic Movies and Munchies Against Me: Searching for a Former Clarity Fat Chord Records by Chris Mattix Staff Writer Hailing from Gainesville, Florida, Against Me has been playing together for quite some time, and it seems that they are getting better with every subse quent record. Their latest offering, Searching for a Former Clarity, is longer, faster, slower, and better than anything the band has done yet. I will admit that at first I wasn’t sure about the quality of this album, but after a few listens I quickly changed my tune, and now all I can do is sing its praises. If you are familiar with Against Me, you will be pleased to know that the band’s unique brand of upbeat anarcho-punk is ready and waiting for you on Searching, but this album goes above and beyond anything the band has done before. Tracks like “Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners” and “From Her Lips to God’s Ears” are remi niscent of past albums while songs like “How Low” and “Violence” are completely new. The bottom line is that this album is amazing from start to fin ish. I can’t say enough good things about this band, and I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with next. I love this band, they consistently deliver stellar music that is heart felt and fun, and any one who considers themselves to Sub Pop Records by Chris Mattix Staff Writer I bought this cd on a whim, and I have to say this is one of the smartest purchases I’ve made in a long time. Wolf Parade is a relatively new band that has generating a lot of well deserved buzz in the indie scene. The first full length album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, is full to the brim with fantastic songs that show off the bands knack for writing a catchy tune. A lot of people who hear this album may compare Wolf Parade to The Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, but in my opinion, this album is better than both of those bands lat est offerings. One of the great things about this album is the use of two vocal ists, who sing an equal amount over the course of the record. This be a fan of intelligent music should go pick this one up. I just got to see them live, and it was amazing so if you ever have the opportunity, go see them. Against Me: Searching for a Former Clarity 9.5/10 Chris Mattix, Carroll’s own music critic and disc jockey, is ready to fire reviews of cds out there for you to check out before you buy. album is definitely in the top five albums to come out this year join ing the ranks of artists like Sufjan Stevens, The New Pomographers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Dungen. Wolf Parade: Apologies to the Queen Mary 9.4/10 I really enjoyed Apologies to the Queen Mary from start to fin ish, and in my opinion the stand out tracks are “Modem World,” “Grounds for Divorce,” and “Shine a Light,” but in all reality, the entire album is amazing, and any fan of The Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, or The New Pomographers should adore this album. by John Earley Staff Writer Movies are great cultural arti fact for Americans. Where else can you get up-to-date philosophy, politics, jokes, and explosions? However, with the good comes the bad, and as college students it’s important to recognize our individual likes and dislikes. In order to likes something more we buy hi definition televisions, and Dolby surround sound systems. In assisting your enjoyment of movies I offer you a meal sugges tion, cooking instructions, and the film it should be eaten with. Before we get started let me set some of the ground mles. 1) These are not diet foods, if col lege students were supposed to lose weight they wouldn’t gain 15 pounds their freshman year. 2) Food can ruin a movie as well as add to it so please don’t watch “Hannibal” while eting Chicken Skins. You’ll end up feeling guilty, trust me I know. Other than that try these eats with your next movie, and see if it doesn’t make the film more enjoy able. This month as a welcome back to school I present to you the great film, “When Harry Met by Caitlin McElhinny Staff Writer The Carroll College Radio is means for students to come together and reach out to their community. It is a rarity to have a public outlet on a small campus, but the truth is, the radio is often overlooked.
