12 CAREER SERVICES HELPING STUDENTS by kurt paulson intern writer Why career services? Not only can it help students with workshops on how to land a dream job, but also how to decide on a m ajor or write an effective resume. \The w orkshops sponsored by career services are designed to equip students with the skills to be successful in their career devel opment and job search process. I w ant Carroll students to feel con fident in their ability to market themselves effectively, whether that is to employers for intern ships or jobs, or to graduate pro grams,\ said Rosalie Walsh, direc tor of career services. Walsh has been directing the career services at Carroll for eight een years. Do you w ant to get an internship or a great job? Walsh can help. All students can use this resource. Seniors looking for jobs. Freshman looking for majors. Many underclassmen reading this might say \I do not need a resume yet.\ Well I would say yes you do. Having an updated pro fessional resume makes a student marketable for summer w ork, a career, or graduate school. \I had no idea what Rosalie could do for me until I went to the career center,\ said Catie Priddy a senior at Carroll. To have such a valuable resource on campus is a pleasure to the stu dents who use it. Walsh is offering workshops for students interested in resume writing or job interviewing throughout the semester. Take advantage. Make yourself m ar ketable. Use the skills Rosalie teaches and apply them to your job hunt or interview\ process. \I learned how to interview cor rectly\ for graduate school by\ using the resources at the career center,\ said Kirsten Hagener a senior at Carroll. Walsh takes appointments for students and helps them write resumes, look for jobs, and perfect their interviewing techniques. So why\ not use her help? \I w ant Carroll students to have an edge, to know they have the knowledge of how\ the process really works,\ said Walsh. This facility is located on the south end of campus in the KTVH station building. We are all here to get educated and eventually look for career opportunities and this is the w ay to do it. This evening was one of three he has spent sharing coffee and conversation with the Carroll community. \Coffee with the Rishop\ has become an antici pated event every\ semester at Carroll. Not only is free coffee provided by\ Carroll College Campus Ministry, but the students spend an evening hav ing their questions answered by Rishop Thomas, class of 72. \About a m onth prior to the evening, I have the students write any questions they would like answered by the Bishop. This gives him a chance to know where the students' interests are, as well as prepare some answers ahead of time,\ said Colleen Dunne, associate director of campus ministry. Dunne is responsible for the scheduling and prepara tion of these events. Bishop Thomas opened the evening with a prayer from Pope Benedict XYI's new Encyclical, a writing by which Bishop Thomas said he had been \wonder fully startled\. This was the only scripted dialogue of the evening. The questions received by the Bishop from the Carroll students dealt with everything from voca tions, to Catholic identity in Catholic colleges, to issues of social justice. Students currently involved in RCIA asked questions regarding their upcoming baptism, first eucharist, and confirmation. \I am never disappointed when I hear the Bishop talk\ said Stephanie Pung, senior Theology and English student. \He is eloquent and speaks from experience. I like how available he has made himself to us students.\ For two hours, students and community listened to the Bishop's explanations and stories regarding BISHOP continued on p age 16 DISCOVER THE AUTONOMY TO PRACTICE AND THE RESPECT OF DOCTORS SFC Michael S.
