Carroll has summer job opportunities for students By JENNI TAXER Prospector StajfWriter With summer close at hand, many students find themselves scrambling to locate and be accept ed to the perfect job or internship. Even if you are completely set on leaving the state for the summer, Carroll has some great information regarding summer jobs, intern ships, and how to get a position. The Career and Testing Services, located on the north side of the KTVH building, has great informa tion on year-round summer jobs and internships. Currently their focus is on summer, with many listings from here to Europe with opportunities for students. All internships and job postings are also located in the student sec tion of the Carroll Web site. The jobs include not only on- campus jobs, but encompass a variety of off-campus jobs as well. Carroll is in need of desk work ers for the summer, according to Johnna Kimmel, a sophomore Sociology major and desk worker. The person to contact for this particular on campus position is Samantha Kempsaid. The admissions office is offer ing summer telecounseling jobs, according to Kyle Torrens, a sophomore Sociology major and telecounselor. “Career Services advertises openings that employers submit on our seasonal jobs board on the Web page,” said Rosalie Walsh, Director of Career and Testing Services. On Apr. 11, many employers were at the Helena Area Career Fair in the RE. Center. Carroll has two internship op tions students can complete on campus or elsewhere over the sum mer, according to Amber Childers, a junior sports management major. They are cooperative education experiences and internships. Current opportunities are publi cized by Career Services not only to students but also to faculty in relevant departments in order to create a bridge between employers and students, according to Walsh. Career Services has a database of employers who have had interns in the past to allow students to easily find internship opportunities, said Walsh. “The online internship boards on the Career Services Web page list the opportunities with employers who are actively seeking an intern for the current or next semester,” said Walsh. Career Services can help with all aspects of summer internships through Carroll, as to Courtney Hecht, a sophomore Civil Engi neering major and summer intern for the Western Lands Federal Highway Division, discovered. “I saw the engineering student internship advertised on a few bul letin boards, and my professors had mentioned it,” said Hecht. “Each spring semester, Career Services holds an Internship Week designed to create awareness of the importance of internships as a vital component of one’s college educa tion,” said Walsh. Walsh provides two valuable workshops to the Carroll Com munity: The Importance of Intern ships and How to Land Your Ideal Internship. Walsh and Career Services are vital assets to be used when in search of employment or an intern ship. “I assist students with writing appropriate, effective resumes for both summer jobs and internships, as well as help them acquire inter viewing skills,” said Walsh. Not only does Career Services house all the information you could need in one place, but Walsh can assist you with every detail of how to land the perfect summer job or internship.
