Loan Is Approved For EMCE Structure Spurs, SUB Board Al Regional Meets Two EMCE groups, Student Union Board and Spurs, are off campus this weekend, attending regional conferences in Idaho and Washington. Members of the Student Union Board are attending Pacific North- west regional conference of the Association of College Unions at -the University of Idaho, Moscow. At the conference from EMCE are Karen Wilson, Ruthann Barni- cota, Ginger Ramus, Barbara Finn, June Hamilton, Chuck Haines, and Miss Carol Saunders, dean of women and director of student activities. The Spurs, their junior advisers, Helen Anderson and Jean Zimbel- man, and their adviser, Miss Anne Arnold, are at Pacific Luth- eran College, Parkland, Wash., at- tending the Region One Spur con- vention. Spurs, a sophomore women's honorary, are at the convention from Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Second Polio Shot Set For Tuesday, Wednesday The second in a series of three polio injections will be adminis- tered in the health services de- partment on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 8:30 to 10:30 a. m., according to Miss Ber- nadette Martin, director of health services. First, third and booster polio shots will also be available. Only students, faulty and staff who signed up for the shots are eligible to receive them, Miss Martin said. New Volume Available At Counseling Center The EMCE counseling center has just received the volume \Ad- + mission Requirements of Ameri- can Medical Colleges (including Canada),\ according to Dr. Wil- liam Garrison, center director. The book is on file for students interested in medical training. It gives the latest data on admission requirements, costs, and financial aid available. \Students interested in this and other current occupational infor- mation are invited to come in and Play Reserved Seats Available Nov. 12 Reserved seat tickets for the fall drama production, \Reclining Figure,\ may be picked up begin- ning Thursday, Nov. 12, at the student activities desk in the SUB. Students may obtain a reserved seat for the performances on Nov. 19, 20 or 21 upon presentation of their activity cards. The arena-type production, di- rected by Frederick Miller, will be presented in the Student Union lounge with curtain time at 8 p.m. Lutheran Students Organize at EMCE The Lutheran Students Associa- tion of America at Eastern Mon- tana College of Education held their second meeting for the school year yesterday at a noon luncheon in the Student Union Building. An organization meeting was held Oct. 30, at which the follow- ing officers were elected: presi- dent, Ken Tkach; vice president, Connye Idstrom; secretary-treas- urer, Elizabeth Steensland; pro- gram chairman, Beth Shelver; publicity chairman, Jane Madson; and adviser, Miss Angeline Ek- strand. Rev. John P. Shannon, pastor of the First English Luth- eran Church and director of LSAA in Billings, and Mrs. Shannon were present at the first meeting. Guest speaker at the Nov. 5 meeting was Rev. Paul 0. Lee, assistant pastor of the American Lutheran Church. He spoke on the purposes and activities of LSAA and was introduced by Miss Shelver. \In a college all the students of the same denomination should join together for a more unified fellowship,\ stated Tkach. \We want all students, especially the Lutheran students on campus, to attend our meetings and take part in LSAA.\ The meetings will be held every Thursday at noon in the small conference room of the SUB, the next meeting to be on Nov. 12. browse through our occupational files,\ Said Dr. Garrison. The counseling center, Ad. 103, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.\ AWS Elects New Officers at Tea The second annual Associated Women Students tea was held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3 from 3:30-5 in the lounge at the Stu- dent Union Building for all wom- en students at Eastern. The purpose of this function was the election of the 1959-60 AWS of- ficers except remaining president Sharon Parker. Newly elected officers include: Dorothy Anderson, Ana c o n d a junior, publicity chairman; Linda Bolin, Absarokee sophomore, vice- president; Sharon Henderson, Sid- ney freshman, historian; Jeanne Noble, Great Falls freshman, re- cording secretary; and Judy Udin, Fairfield sophomore, treasurer. Honored guests included women faculty members at Eastern and Mrs. H. L. Steele, wife of East- ern's president. Voting was held after each candidate delivered a short introductory speech. Vacation Wednesday Classes will not meet and offices will be closed at Eastern on Wednesday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day and an official state holiday. Evening classes will not meet. Because the of four-day week the Retort will publish a two-page issue Nov. 13. Members of Choir, Harold Slagle, Eastern's choir director, said that the tryouts for the musical show cast will be held in the near future. The show to be performed has not been defin- itely set yet. One possible show is \Finian's Rainbow.\ The def- inite date for tryouts will be an- nounced later. The choir members at Eastern this year are: sopranos; Carol Caudila, Ellen Chamberlain, Mary Patricia Chapman, Delores Fuchs, Vivian Gerdes, Donna Helzer, Joan House, Evelyn Howard, Gail Klein, Carol Larimer, Marilyn Nelon, Ruth Ohlrich, Katherine Peterson, Patricia Shorey. Altos: Donna Lee Fink, Gail Joy, Pauline Jones, Edith Kal- berg, Bonnie Laird, Janice La- Valley, Judy Miller, Georgia Pa- tek, Virginia Patterson, Bronetta Approval of a $21/2 million loan for construction of a women's dormitory-student union-cafeteria on the EMCE campus and author- ization of the appointment of an architect to draw plans for the structure was made Monday by the Montana State Board of Edu- cation. The board, meeting in Helena in its regular monthly session, said it hopes the facilities can be available by the fall of 1961. EMCE President H. L. Steele was authorized to appoint architects for the structure to be built on the southwest corner of Rimrock Canadian Exhibit On Display Here \Canadian Watercolors and Graphics Today,\ a gallery of art work by contemporary Canadian artists is being displayed in the large conference room of the Stu- dent Union Building from Nov. 4-24 it was announced by Miss Isabelle Johnson, professor of art. The exhibition of 55 paintings by 25 artists was assembled anc 3 distributed by the American Fed- eration of Arts and is entirely fi- nanced here by appropriations from Eastern's Associated Stu- dents fund. Canadian artists from British Columbia to Nova Scotia are in- cluded in the gallery, which ranges through the media of color lithographs, pen and water colors, woodcuts, linocuts, serigraphs, etchings, drawings and pastels. Coming to Eastern from the Rorich Gallery in Akron, Ohio, the gallery, featuring work by outstanding artists such as Leon Bellefeur and Jean-Paul Riopelle, will be sent to the Russell Gallery in Great Falls after Nov. 24. The paintings are on exihibt Monday through Friday and gal- lery talks are available upon re- quest to Miss Johnson. On Dec. 1-18 the Billings Arts Society will sponsor its annual Christmas show and sale which will be featured at Eastern. Kappa Delta Epsilon Members at Convention Attending the national Kappa Delta Epsilon convention at Wit- tenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, today and tomorrow are the president and adviser of Eastern's chapter, Evelyn Howard, Billings senior, and Mrs. Darleen Stephens, associate professor of education. Kappa Delta Epsilon is a na- tional honorary society for wom- en in education. EMCE's chapter was organized last April and is one of three in the West. Members must be juniors or seniors and have a B academic average. Madrigals Named Schultz, Lois Thorson, Robin Vin- cent, Clarajane Wille. Road and N. 27th St. Financing is to be through the federal Housing and Home Fi- nance Agency, with income from the dormitory, food services, book- store and new student union fa- cilities pledged toward repayment. There will be no increase in student union fees as a result of the new building. When the combined facility is completed, it will house 300 women students. The present Women's Residence Hall will be- come a men's dormitory, and the present Student Union Building will be used for other purposes. Student Legislature Gives Tonight's Mixer Tonight's mixer, sponsored by the Student Legislature, will be held in the Student Union lounge from 9 p.m. until midnight. AWS Conference Here Next Week Eastern's Associated W omen Students organization will be hos- tess Nov. 13-14 for the fall confer- ence of AWS groups in Montana colleges, according to Sharon Powers and Jan LaValley, co- chairmen of the conference. Attending the conference here will be delegates from seven other Montana colleges: Montana State University, Montana State College, Montana School of Mines, West- ern Montana College of Education, Northern Montana College, Car- roll College, and Rocky Mountain . College. Registration will be Nov. 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. with two general sessions following until 4 p.m. Orvin B. Fjare, member of the House of Representatives from Montana in 1955-57, will be the main speaker at the Friday eve- ning banquet; the EMCE band will present a concert at 8:30 p.m. General sessions and discussion groups will be held Saturday morning and delegates will attend the EMCE-MSU Cubs football game that afternoon, and the mixer that evening.
