The round robin type of play-off was used. The members of the winning teams are as follows: Capt. Swanson, Bowen, P. Ma- tross, Bussinger, Daly, Johnson. Capt. Chase, Zepp, V. Matross, Selden, Ames. The teams were quite evenly matched and many hard - fought games were played by every team. The other teams were captained by Carrington, Dowell, Utterback and Fulton. One purpose of the tourna- ment was to discover talent among the new men to be used on the var- sity squad next quarter. Several men made a very good showing. Swanson was high-point man of the tournament, having a total of 70 points in five games. Bob Zepp was a close second with a total of 67 points for the five games. The standing of the six teams in the tournament was as follows: Games Captain Played Won Lost Chase 5 4 1 Swanson 5 4 1 Carrington 5 2 3 Dowell 4 1 3 Utterback 4 1 3 Fulton 5 1 4 Give Church Program On Sunday night, the Eastern Montana Normal school provided the program at a union service of Congregationalists and Methodists at the First Methodist Episcopal Church. The program was begun with a violin solo by Inez Waddell, playing Felix Borowski's \Adoration.\ Mar- jorie Stevenson sang a vocal solo, Stevenson's \Light with a flute obligato by Mary Vaughn. C. V. Ridgely followed with a violin solo, \Berceuse by Karganoff - Hart- mann. The Normal School Glee Club sang \Silent Night, Holiest Night,\ Bernard Hamblen's \0 Wondrous Night,\ Liza Lehman's \No Cradle Was There and No Fire,\ and S. Liddle's \Christmas Bells.\ Director was Mr. Ridgely and accompanist was Arvilla Terrell. The Katoya Players will hold try- outsfor new members some time during the first part of January. All people interested should watch the bulletin board for the exact date. BILLINGS HONORED BY DELEGATE ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Eastern Mon- tana Student Local was held De- cember 5. The principal business taken up was the election of dele- gates to the M. E. A. Delegate As- sembly to be held in Billings De- cember 26-29. With a membership of 66 the Student Local is entitled to three delegates and as many alternates. The delegates chosen are Inez Waddell, Audrey Edmonds, and Lois Reynolds. Alternates are Ar- villa Terrill, La Verne Babcock and Arline Janke. At a recent meeting of the Bil- lings Local, Mr. Abbott, who is ad- visor to the Student Local, was selected as a delegate to the assem- bly. Other delegates from the Bil- lings Local are Miss Nellie Brown, principal of the Roosevelt school, Fred T. Daylis, assistant principal of the high school and Donald and Arthur Roseberry, grade teachers. Alternates are S. D. Rice, principal of the high school; Miss Sarah R. Wood, Miss Ethel Metzger, Miss Olive Scholz, L. F. Beeler and L. R. Foote. The delegate assembly of the M. E. A. proper will be held December 28-29. On December 26 the first annual conference of Montana's small high school association will be held. Thursday, December 27 has been set aside for the annual sessions of the Montana Society for the Study of Education and for the meeting of the Montana Inter- scholastic Athletic Association. S. V. McPherson of Wilsall will (Continued on Page 4) SURPRISE PROGRAM AT CHRISTMAS DANCE The final social function of the fall quarter will be in the form of an All School Christmas Dance, which will be held at the Coliseum Wednesday, December 19. Everyone is requested to arrive at 8:45 in order that all may par- ticipate in the grand march which will mark the beginning of the eve- ning's entertainment at 9:00. A surprise program featuring several novelties has been arranged by the social committee. The chairman of the social committee, Dr. Hines, has selected the following commit- tees to assist him: Admissions — Hilton Utterback, Virgil Dowell, Spencer Ames. Cloakroom Attendants — Hazel Brown, Catherine Dreyer. Favors—Anna Norine, Margaret Heslep, Victor Swanson. Masters of Ceremony—Mr. Bjor- gum, Price Rigby, Ed. Wright. Entertainment Specialties—Carol Eastman, Andy Hofmeister. Prizes and Equipment — Clarice Hofmann, Bernice Haynes, Paul Johnson, Clyde Carrington. This is one time of year when we can celebrate with a clear con- science. Our knowledge has been exposed to the battery of tests so cleverly prepared by the instruc- tors. If we \flunked\ them, it's too late to do anything about it except forget it now and make a New Year's resolution to improve. If we passed, a celebration is in order anyway. It is 'true that we will lose a little sleep, but the loss of sleep will add (Continued on Page 4) Commencement exercises for the December graduating class of E. M. N. S. will be held Thursday, Decem- ber 20, at 4 o'clock in the Congre- gational Church. R. H. Wallin, principal of the Custer County High School at Miles City, will speak to the graduates, fac- ulty members, students and friends on \The Challenge of Today.\ There are five graduates in this class: Alta Askdal, Belfry; Elaine Erther, Baker; Colette Mari-Hart, Billings; Alice Marvin, Billings; and Lois Reynolds, Miles City. Ushers for the occasion will be members of the Student Council, Hilton Utterback, Inez Waddell, Virginia Dennis, Price Rigby, Sig- urd Seldon, William Chase and Andy Hofmeister. Classes Dismiss At 3 P. M. All classes will be dismissed at 3:00 Thursday, and all students are expected to attend the Commence- ment exercises. Student activity tickets will be collected at the door. School will officially close at 5 p.m. Thursday and will reconvene Jan- uary 2. Mr. Foote will present the gradu- ating class and W. M. Johnson, member of the State Board of Edu- cation, will receive the class and present the diplomas. The Invocation and Benedition will be given by Rev. W. T. Reni- son, rector of the St. Luke's Epis- copal Church. Banquets Graduates] Members of the December grad- uating class will be the guests of the faculty at a banquet Wednes- day evening, December 19. The banquet will be held in the Com- mercial Club and will start prompt- ly at 6:30 in order to be through by 8:30 in order that those who desire to do 7>o may attend the Christmas dance at the Coliseum. Miss Rich will act as toastmis- tress and the program is as follows: Piano Selection, Elaine Erther. Presentation of Class, Mr. Man- ion. Recognition of Class, Dr. Mc- Mullen. Response for Class, Lois Rey- nolds. Address, Mr. Peterson. The menu will consist of grape- fruit salad, turkey, mashed pota- toes, giblet gravy, cranberry ice, rolls, jelly, coffee and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. The motif of the decorations will be a five point star, and Christmas greens and red candles will be used on the tables.
