E. M. S. M. MEN ORGANIZE GLEE CLUB Through the efforts of Max Buit- enveld and Harold Wright, first year students, E. M. S. N. S. may at last have its men's chorus. Those interested met for the first time last Wednesday afternoon un- der the supervision of Mr. Ridgely and Dr. McMullen, resulting in a group of ten members and at least as many more prospects. The pres- ent arrangement includes: First tenor, Max Buitenveld and Robert Wilson; second tenor, Bill Chase and Don Welsh; bass, Bob Moorman, Delbert Sirrine and Harold Wright; baritone, Ed Gremmer, Eli Stewart and Elton Elliott. To those men of the faculty who are casting anxious glances toward Mr. Ridgely's door the boys have extended an invitation to appear at the next meeting. The boys want more members, especially tenors, and a good piano player, and they frown upon women! Ralph Loomis played a piano solo as a part of the program given by the Billings Chapter Order of De- Molay for their parents and friends Wednesday, October 21. Mrs. E. G. Essman and daughters of Roundup visited Gladys Essman on October 18. Leona Nydegger was visited last Friday by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Nydegger, and two brothers and aunt, Mrs. L. T. Hartzell. They were en route to Canada. Dorothy Ruggles spent the week- end, October 18-19, at her home in Shawmut. Miss Bonita Everett entertained informally on the evening of Octo- ber 9. Those spending the evening were Misses Jean Hickok, Irene Ha- zelton, Franklyn Williams, and Mar- garet Williams. Pauline Cross and Ruth Toothaker spent the week-end, October 24, in Big Timber. Miss Williams Resigns Miss Franklyn Williams has re- signed from the mimeograph and supplies office of the E. M. S. N. S. where she worked for four years, to become a full time student in this institution. She has been previously starred as a part time student. Miss Doris Rember of Billings, a last year student at Bozeman, replaces Miss Williams in the book store. Lois Fraser spent the week-end, October 17, at her home in Lavina. She was accompanied by Carol Moats. Ruth Tucker went to her home at Huntley on Saturday, October 17. Students who visited at home over the week-end of October 9 and 10 were Helen Wallace at Columbus, Kathryn Denton at Pompeys Pillar, and Delight Bruce at Rapelje. STUDENT COUNCIL MEETS The Student Council held its first meeting of the year in Dr. McMul- len's office on Wednesday, October 21. The members were told what their powers are and what their duties will be in the coming year. The following officers were then elected: President, Joe Toohey; Vice President, Luis Gonzales; Secretary, Phyllis Lumley. The members of the Student Council are: Seniors— Joe Toohey, Luis Gonzales, Elmer Kloster and Ed Gremmer; Freshmen —Phyllis Lumley, Willa Mae How- ard and Vern Clark. A group of E. M. S. N. S. girls took a ten-mile hike along the Yel- lowstone River Sunday, October 18 in order to gain points for the W. A. A. Those who participated were Eleanor Tenny, Delight Bruce, Viola Putnam and Ann Nordahl with Jean Jimmerson as W. A. A. manager. Charles Wagner spent the week- end of October 24 at his home in Park City. STUDENT LOCAL ELECTS OFFICERS OCTOBER 7 The organization meeting of the Student Local of the M. E. A. was held at 3 o'clock, October 7 in room 308. At that time 38 second year students became paid members of the organization. The election of officers was held and the following were elected: President, Marilyn Duell; vice pres- ident, Helen Swan; secretary and treasurer, Lillian Peterson. The president appointed the fol- 1 o w i n g membership committee: Chairman, Agnes Helgeland, Rosa Eisenmon, Dorothy Farris, Georgia Abbott, Doris Gram, and Joyce Loucks. A second meeting was held Wednesday, October 21 in room 208. At this meeting committees were appointed to help Mr. Abbott during the M. E. A. Convention this week. There are now 81 members in the club, having paid the dues of $1.00. This gives the privilege of member- ship until September, 1937, and brings the monthly magazine, Mon- tana Education, to each member. For a small sum in addition, mem- bers obtain the services of the Mon- tana Placement Bureau at Helena. Irene Hazelton, a second year stu- dent, was taken to the Deaconess Hospital October 20 for an appendi- citis operation. She is recovering nicely. Bettye Beach gave a dinner and skating party at her home, 713 Ave. E., on October 15. Guests were Louise Laipple, Harold Van Nice, and George Holmes. Morella Whitson of Glasgow and Garnet Schirmer, an E. M. S. N. S. graduate and teacher at Forsyth, were visitors at the home of Mary Biever in Billings, October 25. Joan Beeney visited at her home at Bearcreek over the week-end of October 24. Join W. A. A. At the last regular meeting, managers were appo.nted for the various sports this quarter. Betty Cox, Jean Lund and Hele Holsman attended the football game at Sheridan, Wyoming, October 10. Margie Dunn had as her guests over the week-end, Mrs. Ed. Dunn and Mrs. Harry Johnson. Clara Schaubel and Charlotte Hol- lenback were dinner guests of Mrs. Dowell Sunday, October 19. Raymond Brown received a medal for pistol marksmanship at the fair- grounds firing range, September 26. Helen McKee Entertains Helen McKee entertained a num- ber of her friends at a \pitch in\ party at her home on Saturday evening, October 10. Her guests were Martha Shogren, Emogene Skoog, Helen Hoffman, Catherine Williams, Beatrice Fraser, Maloa Nonhoff, Helen Swan, Ruth Tooth- aker, Pauline Cross, Helen Hughes, and Virginia Huffman. The evening was spent in playing cards. Score honors were won by Maloa Nonhof, Helen Swan and Pauline Cross. Janet Young, a second year stu- dent, was called to her home in Bearcreek on Monday, October 19, because of the death of her father, Mr. J. Young, in a mine accident. Miss Young was absent for a week. John Saunders enlisted in Com pany H, 163rd Infantry of Montan National Guard Tuesday, October Charles Wagner spent Sunday a his home at Park City.
