B. club, a secret social organization of first year girls, participated in a no-hostess chili dinner when they met at the home of Miss Peggy Johnson at 123 Cedar avenue, Wednesday, February 1. Guessing games and contests offered the diversion with prizes being won by Miss Doris Buchanan, Miss Ber- nice Leuschen, Miss Mabel Holley and Miss Dolly Johnson. Members present were Miss Peggy Johnson, Miss Hazel Reukauf, Miss Nellie Reukauf, Miss Doris Bu- chanan, Miss Bernice Leuschen, Miss Jane Logue, Miss Norma Knowles and Miss Shirley Branson. Club guests were Miss Holley, Miss John- son, Miss Myrtle McCammon, Miss Irene Larson, Miss Marian Laughlin, Miss Betty June Worst, Miss Marian Knutson, Miss Marjorie Given and Mrs. Floyd French. The club held a business meeting at the home of Miss Peggy Johnson on Wednesday, February 15, when they had their pictures taken for the annual. A pitch-in dinner was en- joyed. On the occasion of her birthday, Miss Mildred Hunter entertained a few of her friends in her home after they attended the Poly-Dillon game, February 20. Those present were Anne Oser, Eleanor Kennedy, Yvonne Halsey, Bill Chase, Joe Stark, Bob Polston, Wayne Babcock, Rex Welton, Marion Ostby, Emery Ostby, and Jack Johnson. Miss Edna Halverson was dinner hostess on Friday, February 24, at her home at 307 South Thirty-fourth, with Miss Orma Helmericks, Miss Elaine Essman, Miss Frances Jones, Miss Louise Liquin, and Miss Valdia Koch of the Poly as guests. Miss Ila McClain and Miss Fern Paterson will spend their spring va- cation as guests of Miss Paterson's mother, Mrs. R. J. Paterson of Liv- ingston. Miss Hilfred Paterson, who was graduated from E.M.S.N.S. in 1929, and who is now county super- intendent at Park county, will motor to Billings for her sister and her guest. Miss Helen Walworth was hostess at a waffle supper Monday evening, February 6, when she entertained at the House of Suiter for Miss Euphie Robinson, Miss Louise Liquin, Miss Annabel Waddell and Miss Frances Jones. The girls' octet, with Miss Nourse as accompanist, will accompany Mr. Abbott to the Sunny Valley School for the parent-teacher meeting and supper on Friday evening, March 31. The octet will sing four numbers. Team Is Entertained At Bjorgum Home Members of the basketball squad were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bjorgum, Sunday afternoon, March 5, at their home, 141 Grand avenue. The dinner consisted of roast pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, hot buns, fruit salad, cherry pie a-la-mode, and coffee. At the closing of the dinner the basketball boys presented Mr. Bjor- gum with a leather traveling bag and Mrs. Bjorgum with a box of candy. The rest of the afternoon was spent discussing the new basketball rules, plans for spring athletics and the state championship basketball tournament to be held here March 16, 17 and 18. Guests present at the dinner were Wayne Babcock, Joe Stark, James Minnie, Gib Johnson, Emery Ostby, Rex Welton, Bill Swartz, Marion Ostby, Wayne Marcus, Jack John- son, Dwight Mason, Jack Lewis, Phillip Fiske, Oscar Smith and Dale Bryson. Entertaining at her home on Feb- ruary 14, Miss Doris Hogan was hostess at a - Valentine party when she had as her supper guests Miss Mary Axtell, Miss Hazel Swenson, Miss Selma Johnson, Miss Elsie Pa- tek, Walter Stahley, Bill Axtell, Stan Grayson, Bob Ross and Jim Patek. Several informal hours were spent in cards and games. Gib Johnson and Lloyd Gering were dinner guests of Miss Vivian Neilson and Miss Isobel Moerkerke, Wednesday, February 15. MANY INFORMAL PARTIES MARK VALENTINE DAY Ten girls from the Eastern Mon- tana State Normal school were guests at a Valentine party given February 14 by the fine arts department of the Junior Woman's club, at the home of Mrs. Margaret Williams on Spruce avenue. Several informal hours were spent in playing a va- riety of games including darts, bingo, egg football and gootie. Prizes were won by Mary Foy Shadduck, Ann Neling, Norma Barnard and Nellie Reukauf. E. M. S. N. S. guests were Nellie Reukauf, Mary Foy Shad- duck, Nora Barnard, Ann Neling, Frances Saunders, Letha Saunders, Jane Logue, Bessie Hughes and Lois Woods. Miss Edna Halverson was an in- vited guest at the valentine party given in Miss Mabel Pettit's fifth grade room at the Taft school, where Miss Halverson observed last quarter. Miss Edna Anderson of Sidney spent the week of February 20 to 27 as a house guest of Miss Vivian Nielsen and Miss I. Moerkerke. Miss Betty Cooper spent the week- end of February 11 and 12, visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cooper at Willow Creek. Preceding the second year dance February 3, Miss Adair Johnson and Miss Barbara Johnson had as their dinner guests Gib Johnson, Jerry Matross, Lloyd Markell and Bob Morin. News of the Clubs And Organizations SKETCH CLUB—Beulah Satter- thwaite was elected by the club to be the representative for the annual staff. She'll keep them informed as to what the club is doing. Speaking of doing things, a lot of student teaching patterns have been turned out by the group. Then to compen- sate for the effort lunch is served. On February 25, a Washington's birthday dinner was served to the various members and to one guest, Dorothy MacDonald, a graduate of E. M. S. N. S. in '34. ROVER CLUB—During the month of February the Rover club, under the supervision of Mr. Hoheisel, has made several hikes. During the trips the hikers have become acquainted with Devil's kitchen, and both the eastern and western ends of the rimrocks. The only rule of the club is the following one: \Any member of the Rovers who mentions school work or any other dull subject, while hiking, shall be punished by paying a dime fine to be used in a general fund. So far, the fund is zero. Nice work, folks! W. A. A. — The local W. A. A. has invited the W.A.A. organizations from the State college at Bozeman, the Teachers college at Dillon, the university at Missoula, to come to Billings for a play-day on May 19- 20. Plans are not definitely com- pleted. Attractive gold pins have been ordered for members. The plan for permission to wear them is as fol- lows: Those members who join for one quarter and take active part in some activity will be made eligible to wear one by paying a small fee. If they do not participate in the next quarter the pin will be turned in to the club and their fee will be re- turned. Those members who have taken an active part in the organ- ization for four quarters will be allowed to keep their pins. KATOYA PLAYERS—The Katoya Players have held one meeting since the last issue. Officers were elected as follows: president, Annabelle Pe- terson; vice president, Rachael Bo- vee; secretary, Margaret Froiland; and the treasurer, June Johnson. A play, \The Birthday Ball,\ was pre- sented in the Green room at that time. M. E. A.—Wayne Marcus and Clif- ford Burnet were elected as repre- sentatives of the local M. E. A. to the delegate assembly of M. E. A., which will meet in Billings, March 25, 26 and 27. Alternates are Anna- belle Peterson and Esther Ferns. A colloquy on the Great Seal of Montana was presented by Esther Ferns and Clifford Burnet at the Yellowstone County Elementary Teachers on Saturday, March 4, at the Commercial club. Plans are in the making for a trip to Custer Battlefield under the spon- sorship of M. E. A. SERVICE CLUB—Members of the club have now completed the work on their arm bands. The colors used are maroon, white and blue. The letter \M\ is made of maroon felt and placed on a blue background with the word \Service\ printed across it in white. These arm bands will be worn at FRESHMEN SPONSOR DANCE; ALUMNI ACT AS PATRONESSES Members of the first year class sponsored a dance in the gym Friday evening, March 3. Dancing was from 9:30 until 12 to music supplied by Jack King's orchestra. The freshmen girl's trio, Ada Duell, Vivian Hall and Maxine Ruppel, ac- companied by Annabelle Peterson, sang \Penny Serenade\ and \Deep Purple.\ Gerry Nelson also sang a number accompanied by the or- chestra. At the suggestion of Mr. Dean, patrons and patronesses were chosen from among alumni who were in Billings at the time of the dance. They were Loretta Waddell, '36, Mrs. Agnes Stark Johns '33, Orton Sir- rine '34, and Elmer E. Balsam and Eli Veach, their escorts. Vivian Hall, Barbara Johnson and Madge Petrie were in charge of arrangements. Entertaining at the home of Miss Madge Petrie, Miss Helen Essington and Miss Petrie were hostesses at dinner Friday, February 17. Their guests were Miss Phyllis Gore, stu- dent at the State college at Bozeman, Miss Vicki Sampsel, Miss Edna Mae McDonald, Miss Ada Duell, Miss Helen Hagerman, Miss Marjorie Mc- Donald, Miss Jean Tyson, Miss Bar- bara Ann Johnson, Miss Marjorie Crutcher, Miss Adair Johnson, Miss Mary Worth, Miss Maxine Ruppel. The birthday of Miss Isobel Moer- kerke was observed February 6 with a dinner given by Mrs. R. C. Suiter at her home at 206 Ash avenue. An additional guest was Miss Shirley Stinebaugh. In the evening, Miss Moerkerke had as her guests Miss Vivian Nielsen, Dale Bryson, and Arthur Minnie. A sleigh riding party was enjoyed on Sunday, February 5, when Miss Mary Axtell entertained at her home. Participants were Miss Doris Hogan, Miss Selma Johnson, Miss Gladys Myers, Miss Eleanor Axtell, Miss Mary Axtell, Walter Shahley and Bill Axtell. Miss Anne Oser had as her dinner guests Sunday, February 12, Bill Chase and Miss Mildred Hunter. A pot-luck luncheon was served at the home of Miss Marion Knutson and Miss Mabel Holley, Friday, Feb- ruary 10. Guests were Miss Vicki Sampsel, Miss Jean Tyson, Miss Mar- jorie McDonald, Miss Dorothy Wil- liams, Miss Emma Rush, Miss Mar- jorie Given and Miss Lucille Davis. Miss Jeanette Beley was a dinner guest of Miss Caroline Burke when Miss Burke entertained at her apart- ment at 828 North Twenty-eighth street, Wednesday, February 8. On February 14, a Valentine dinner was enjoyed at 1111 North Thirty- second when Miss Adair Johnson, Miss Barbara Johnson and Miss Marjorie Crutcher entertained for Miss Isobel Kiedroski, Miss Chloe Jones and Miss Lillian Eldridge. any occasion when the club is active. The club helped sponsor the rec- reation hour after the second Dillon game. Plans are now being made for a concession during the state high school basketball tournament to be held here March 16, 17 and 18.
