Capacity Crowd Sees 1950 Vodvil; Music Club Skit, First; Disney-lames Pantomime Captures Honors Playing before one of the largest crowds to file into Western’s auditorium in recent years, the 1950 Vodvil scored a very definite hit with a great variety of skits and in-between acts. The high calibre of entertainment certainly imposed a very difficult task on the three judges, who, in the final tabulation, and a very close one at that, awarded first place to the Music Club’s Showboat skit, and runner-up awards to the Campus Close-ups by the Art club and the Montana Marshall Plan by the International Relations club. Between act honors went to the Dick Disney-Bill James pantomime of A1 Jolson and Bing Crosby, and the runner-up award went to the Men’s Quartette. This year, as last, the Vodvil was sponsored by the student council— Don Ellsworth, student body president; President Rush Jordan, faculty sponsor. All proceeds from admissions to the performance and the sale of the programs go into a fund set aside for the publication of the College yearbook. A1 Fidler acted as Master of Ceremonies. Assistant student directors were Leonard Lindgren, Lyle Berg, Robert Racicot, and Bill O’Neill. -General assistance was given by Sammy Solberg, curtain; Don Briggeman and Ed Tillis, lights; Genevieve Cole, Betty Austreng, June Leis- tiko, and Don Ellsworth, accompanists; and the publication of the program-scandal sheet was under the direction of Rosemary Lane, Lyle Berg, Bill Drew, Peggy Johnston, and members of the Chan ticleer club. Rose Badovinatz and Eileen Hamilton were in charge of the tickets. Participation in the skits and be tween acts was as follows: Junior Class entitled the Sheep- herder’s Revenge: Allen Weeks, Lyle Berg, Mary Baker, Don Ells worth, Swede Lindgren, John Mc Mahon, Walt Anderson, Bud Thom as, Marva Eccleston, and Stan Smith. Sophomore Trio: Claire Finton, Carol Henderson, and June Leis- tiko. Crosby-Jolson Pantomime: Dick Disney and Bill James. Art Club entitled Campus Close- ups: Hugh Simmons, Sam Anderson, Lindy Estes, Sammy Solberg, and Harriet Holzer. Men’s Quartette: Ed Durkin, A1 Fidler, Dan Boka, and Steele Young. Gargoyles entitled Composite Con coction: Ted Feldman, Mary Ann Blazic'h, Darlene Carkeet, Bill Jolly, Shirley Stocker, Clarence Brammer, Mary Lueck, Donna Carrigan, and Marjorie Pettit. (Continued on page 4) Art Exhibit Here Today and Tomorrow Everyone is invited to visit the art crafts exhibit in room 313 today and tomorrow be tween the hours of two and four. The exhibit consists of crafts done by students of Earl Allen’s classes at the Missoula county high school. Number 12 DON ELLSWORTH Student Body President, and Over-all Vodvil Chairman Duz Girls, Erickson, Klon-Dike Trio Win Parade Awards Three judges watched our annual vodvil parade from the corner of Glendale and Montana streets and awarded three prizes to the best cos tumed students. First prize went to Doris Beck, Mitzi Dwyer, Jo Ann Stiles, Margaret Hork, and Bonita Roffler. These five girls turned out in gaily decorated boxes of Duz. Second prize went to Robert Erick son who did an outstanding jpb of leading the parade in his majorette’s costume; and third prize was award ed to the Klon-dike Trio—Maggie Schmidt, Maxine Petterson and Dar lene Carkeet. Between fifty and a hundred stu dents turned out, in a great and grand array of costumes, to form Kappa Zeta N u Sponsors Formal Dinner Dance The Kappa Zeta Nu, Western Montana College of Education soror ity, held its annual dinner dance at the St. James guild hall at 7:30 p. m., Saturday, April 1. An Easter motif was carried out in the decorations of the hall and the tables were adorned with can dles and spring flowers. A turkey dinner was served by members of the St. James Guild. Mr. Joe Smith provided the music during the course of the dinner. The music for the dancing was furnished by Mr. Joe Smith and his orchestra. In attendance were 38 couples, in cluding students, alumni, and fac ulty members. The committees were comprised of Pat Thompson, chairman; Margar et Anderson, napkins; Harriet Mel lott and Leoan Manning, programs; Betty Breiter, Louise Rogers, Lor raine Fehrenkamp, place cards; Shirlee Morris, Jackie Sweeney, and Jean Staudenmeyer, decora tions. Mrs. Bill Straugh and Miss Evelyn Mikkelson were sponsors. the parade which thrilled a large turnout of townspeople and inter rupted classes at the high school and grade school buildings. The parade was a fitting beginning to one of the finest traditional vodvil days. “Come in style and clap your hands. Dive for the oyster and dive for the clam.” The rhythm of the Gandrud or chestra and the calls of an expert will lend authentic atmosphere to the freshman barn dance on Friday night, April 14, at the college gym. The theme of the dance will be Chilean Will Speak April 11— for Sure Senor Gunther Rochefort E., a Chilean student at the School of Mines in Butte, will speak at the International Relations club meet ing Tuesday evening, April 11. He has been asked to discuss political, social, economic, and religious trends in his native country. Mr. Rochefort received his high school education at Santiago, Chile, after which he decided to come to the United States and enter the Montana School of Mines. He ar rived in this country in August, 1947, and enrolled as a student of engineering. Upon completion of his studies in this country, Mr. Rochefort intends to return to his native country to continue his career in engineering. Through the courtesy of the In ternational Relations club, this in teresting discussion will be open to the public. Car trouble delayed Mr. Roche fort on his way to Dillon, March 28, the date he was first scheduled to speak to the International Relations club. When he did arrive, Vodvil rehearsals were going on.
