The letters of Western Montana College of Educa tion are being routed on the sign which is shaped like Montana. Two coats of brown enamel are yet to be applied. Playing cards, with Western’s col lege building etched on the ‘backs, are being purchased from Brown and Bigelow Co., St. Paul, Minnesota. Dillon, Montana, Wednesday, May 14, 1952 Number 13 THREE-ACT BROADWAY SUCCESS TO BE PRESENTED AT WESTERN Bob Erickson in Role Of Father Heads Gargoyle Cast “All My Sons,” a three-act tragedy by A rthur Miller, will be presented in the Western auditorium at 8:00 p. m., on May 26, under the direction of Joe Ryburn. “All My Sons” was first produced in New York in 1947 and was imme diately applauded as a great dra matic play. Mr. Miller received the Dramatic Critic’s Award for the best new American play of the 1947 sea son. Since that time it has been presented in almost every major city in the United States and by Little Theatre and college groups all over the country. The movie adaptation was a smash hit and is still 'being shown in some parts of the country. The play tells the story of a young man whose high ideals are shattered by the discovery o*f his father’s guilt; his mother lives continually in the past, still awaiting the return of her lost son. Although the story takes place immediately following World War II, it carries a powerful message that can be applied to the people of any era. Heading the cast in the role of Joe Keller, the father, is Bob Erick son. Kate Keller, the mother, is played by Jackie Erickson; the son, Chris Keller, by Ed Monger; his sweetheart, Ann Deevev, by Bev erly Grant; and her brother, George Deever, by Harley Iverson. Other members of the cast are Nadine Gra ham as Sue Bayliss, Cliff Simpson as Jim Bayliss, Betty Smith as Bertha, Jackie Armour as Lydia Lubey, and Floyd Brown as Frank Lubey. Get Your Ticket; Prom Date, May 23 By Mike McMahon W estern’s annual junior prom will be held Friday night, May 23, in the College gymnasium. An innovation this year will be the crowning of a Prom Queen, elected by the students. For this annual event, the Veltone seven-piece orchestra of Anaconda has been engaged. Music will be of the best, so let’s not be slow in get ting a date. Decorations of evergreen trees, which will dominate throughout the gymnasium, will be the background and border of the bandstand. There will be no main theme for this dance — it will be a straight program dance lasting from 9:00 p. m. to 12:00 p. m. Tickets are on sale at the 'business office where the price can be de ducted from one’s general deposit fund, if it is so desired. Everyone is urged to help with the decorating or in any way possi ble. Let’s make this prom a big suc- Dan Sweeney Is Awarded NEA Scholarship Dan Sweeney, state president of the Future Teachers of America, has been awarded a scholarship by the National Education association to a leadership conference to be held at Ypsilanti, Michigan, July 3-19. In accepting this scholarship, Mr. Sweeney will represent the State of Montana. The conference deals with public relations between the teacher and the community. It offers an oppor- cess, for it is the last social event tunity for two weeks of intensive for the year. Council Discusses Improvement with President Jordan The Student Council met with President Rush Jordan last week to discuss needed improvements on the Western campus and to make plans for the coming election of next year’s student officers. A fire escape for the men’s d o rm i tory was the first improvement dis cussed. Mr. Jordan quoted the prob able price of the undertaking as he received it from contract surveyors, ¡and showed members of the council (Continued on page 2)
