T H E W E S C O L I T E Page Three Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1962 Westminster Nips Western In Weekend Tilts By Richard Cadieux The new Bulldogs of Western suffered two defeats this weekend to a tough Westminster squad in Salt Lake City. The Parsons, with five lettermen, were led by two top-notch performers who also starred for last year’s ball club. Jim Morris and Gary Bliss turn ed in brilliant performances both nights. Chuck Johns, Western’s big center, turned in a terrific effort for Western on the boards as he grabbed a total of 30 rebounds in both games. Big Dick Silberman was the big gunner on the scor ing side as he pumped in 21 points both nights. In the first game Western held a slim margin throughout three quarters as it used its superior height and some shaky Parson defense to lead 38-30 at halftime. However, Western was hampered somewhat by the loss of their star guard, Bob Sullivan, on fouls. The fourth quarter found the Par sons slip into the lead and defeat the Westerners 77-68. Dick Silberman was high man for the night as he split the nets for 21 points. He was followed by Larry Schmautz with 14 and Dave McGahan with 10. The Parsons were led by Gary Bliss with 19 and Ray Gibbons with 17. Morris was next with 11. The second game saw Westmin ster able to capitalize on a num ber of Bulldog mistakes.
