The Girl of the Golden West by Patience Stevens The play production class, along with Gargoyles (members of the WMC drama club) put on another hit production here at the Western Auditorium. The play, written by David Belasco was adapted and directed hy Jennifer Moore. The setting was during the days of gold fever, 1849-60 in Farlin, Montana. During the three acts, we found out that The Girl, played hy Catherine Winkler, was owner of the town poker hall and was most sought after hy all the men in the west. She had a reputation of “never being kissed.” The villain, Bill Johnson, played hy Ryan Rebsom, was wanted by all the law men in the west. We find out that our villain wants The Girl and is determined to have her, if he is not apprehended first. This comic tale was very well done and all of the supporting roles made the play, including: Nels Tooker, Jeff Peterson, Deborah Winkler, Becky Hindley, Rick Bullis, Tom Korst, Jay Nau, John McCaslin, Bill Warren and Rachel Head. This melodrama-comedy was viewed hy many students, parents, and townspeople during the five nightly shows. The play opened on November 13th and showed again on the 14,13, 21, and 22nd. Everyone involved did a terrific job and the time and commitment showed. Thanks for a great show! Montana’s Showhouse of Arts & Gifts! Only 15 shopping days 'till Christmas! Sunday 12-5 406-683-4600 New Faces on Campus! by Shauna Moran A new member to the faculty of Western Montana College is Sally Bormann, who was raised in the twin cities of Minneapolis, Mn. She attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth where she earned bachelor degrees in German and in Humanities; and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she earned a masters degree and Ph.D., which was part of a continuum program, in English Language and Literature. She taught post secondary school at the University of Michigan, Peoples University in Bejing, China, and La Roche College in Pittsburgh, Penn. At Western she teaches courses in composition, introduction to literature and British Literature. Some of Sally’s additional credentials include studying in Austria, teaching English as a second language in Taiwan, and participating in anthropological field research in China. In her spare time she has been taking a course in ceramics. She also enjoys reading, writing, hiking and camping. “Development of a historical imagination, consideration of another’s point of view, self-reflection, and the ability to evaluate hostile messages and put them to use for positive personal growth” are among her teaching goals. O f Dillon, Sally says, “I like it. The only drawback is that my husband is not here...he’s in Pittsburgh.” She feels that “education is much more about developing tools and skills, about exercising creativity, curiosity and thought-fulness in mutual, communal responsibility, than it is about memorizing facts about specific primary materials.” The students and faculty of Western welcome Sally, wishing her the best of luck and happiness.
