PageS New F a c u lty- Page 8 Fall Student Art Show and Sale Novemeber 29th marked the start of the Fall Student Juried Art Show and Sale at teh WMC Gallery. Western art students of varying levels of mastery competed for cash awards. Thsi year's contest was judged by Art teacher R.B. Rebish, of Beaverhead county high school. Awards were given for the first 3 places in 2D and 3D media pieces. \Hillside of Flowers\ a mosaic by Jessica Hudson, received first place for 2D art. While \Boys\, an oil painting by Jill Scott Jacobson and \Birth\, a linoleum print of Carlotta Audiss, received awars for 2nd and 3rd respectively. Crystal Decker's \Blue Flag Iris\ a stoneware teapot, won first place awards for 3D art. Stoneware was also the medium for 2nd and 3rd place as well; Chuck Hanson's \My Baby Blue\ and Mariah O'Haloran's \Fish Bowl\ took those honors. Gallery Director, Randy Horst, described the show as a \reflection of Western's art curriculum and student growth-technique in conjunction with their own ideas and expression.\ Textural depth and visual richness high light the exhibit's characteristics. From the stark monochromic representations of Mother Earth to the deep sea- blue waves of glass, the exhibit warmly takes the visitor on tour of our campus artists. Pastel horses leap beside a stoic self-portrait done in multi-media collage across teh room from stylist contrasting panels of a self-expressive heart in \oil.\ The exhibit's 39 pieces represent the breadth of talent in a multitude of media; oils, charcoals, watercolors, linoleum prints, monoprint, pen and ink wash, acrylics, charcoal, photography, ceramics, ironwork, silversmith and blown-glass. Contributing artists include: Jessica Hudson, Isiah Brown-Nelson, Mariah O’Halloran, Matthew Moses, Chuck Hanson, Crystal Decker, Tyson Holland, Jackie Rogan, Patricia Dess, Tom Lacerte, Carlotta Audiss, Katie Brockway, Amy Kadrmas, Melody Rice, Holly Hayworth, Davin Quist, Amie Zadow, Jackie Zadow, Polly Rhodes, and Jill Scott Jacobson. In conjunction with the fall art show, westem't fall music recital will be held Thursday, the 7th, in the small Auditorium at 7:30 pm. A reception for both student musicians and artists wil be held immediately thereafter downstairs in the Gallery at 8:30 pm. The annual Christmas Art Sale will begin at that time and continue from 9 am until 4 pm, Friday the 8th. Many of the show's submissions are for sale in addition to works by non-contribut ing artists. I*m sure Art Kehler everyone complains about the rolling trash can pushed by at least 2 really huge guys. Does it really Angela Kennedy take 2? Tm sure you'veprobably asked that yourself. But do you ever wonder who is the one who Is Jason Lindusky going to pick up all those paper circles you dumped oh the carpet after you finished punching the Josh Maui holes? Yep, it was me, or one of those 2 really huge guys. The same people who've cleaned up the ' Sarah Tipper Mild overflowing raw sewage from theauditorium basement floor. Jackalynn Snow My boss, Dave (the best boss ever), says that there used to be 2 supervisors and about 25 Ben aJk.a A1 Sorensen people to do the work that's gets done by 5 people now. I've worked for 2 summers, and I can tell you Cheryl Tatum how hard we work for 4 months every year trying to get a head start on the cleaning and maintenance Adrianne Adderley, Adviser needed to protect the buildings for the 8 month school year.
