PUBLIC COMMENT OPEN ON ALBERTON GORGE LAND EXCHANGE Public comment is being sought on a proposed land exchange that would place over 300 acres along the Alberton Gorge near Missoula, into public ownership The exchange involves Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the U S Forest Service. Northwestern Energy, River Network, a private nonprofit conservation organization in Portland, and the Five Valleys Land Trust in Missoula. As part of the proposed exchange, the Forest Service would accept title to four FWP sites Frank Lake Fishing Access Site; Tizer Lake Fishing Access Site. Park Lake Fishing Access Site; and the Natural Bridge property River Network would receive the old Billings FWP Headquarters and parts of two Forest Service sections near Tarkio Northwestern Energy would receive title to a small parcel of national forest system land near Hegben Dam Recently, River Network assigned its interest in the project to the Missoula-based Five Valleys Land Trust, another nonprofit conservation organization, which will work to complete the proposed exchange The Alberton G o rge Land Exchange Environmental Assessment is available for review on the FWP internet site www.fwp.state.mt.us. or at the following locations.
