WELL, WELLt The Daly People Take a Trick and Ittlugs Look Dark tor Clark A Washington special of April 10 to the Butte Miuersays: No report was expected from the committee on privileges and elec tions iu the Clark case to- day. It was expected that time would be taken to deliberate on the evidence and tbe arguments. The announce meet of the committee’s decision came like a ibumlerbolt from a clear sky, crenling a profound scusulio'n and disappointment on both sideB of the senate chamber, in both wings of the capilol and tbruiigb- ont the entile city of Washington. When the action of the commit tee became known Senator Clark was met by hundreds ol people, many of them strangers to hint, who tendered their wannest sym pathy and expressed surprise at the decision of the committee. Senators l ’ettus and llama con troverted the arguments produced by the majority of the committee, but it appears that they I'mally yield ed to that majority when it was n v-ogm/.ed by all the evidence be fore the committee did not in any Way implicate Senator Clark iu any improper action on his part belore the legislature ol Montana- during the senatorial rainiest. 'll was contended that a Urge amount ot money was expended and the 1 niell-nee was drawn that by reason of this the action of the ltg lsliituie was not free and voluntary, Iheielote rendering the election in valid. Uus is a departure frern all previous decisions of the senate euinimllee on privileges ami elec tions. It is very doubtful il the senate will sustain tbisV The report will be prepare!
