for example. 20. Skip the tiered wed- ding cake altogether and have an ornate cake table with several single layer versions. 21. Provide an empty, food -friendly favor box and let guests choose their own from a candy or food buf- fet. 22. If there is no obvious choices for flower girls and ringbearers, omit them from the ceremony. 23. Make your center- pieces mini -dessert stations and forego separate desserts and favors. 24. Have son -mother-in- law and daughter -father-in- law dances. 25. Have the wedding party face the guests. Or come up with your own ideas to create a cere- mony and reception that re- flects who you truly are as a couple. Any aspect of the wedding, short of the legal- ities, is optional or open to your own interpretation. Planning a Wedding? Lake City Shopping Center • Baker, MT Ve.-.1.', • FALLON COUNTY TIMES FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2015- 9 Non-traditional and unique wedding ideas One of the most over- whelming parts of making your wedding decisions is what others think you should do. A common line of reasoning is \do it this way because that's the way it's done\. Well, times change and \non -traditions\ flourish in this age of individuality. Plus you are unique and should have a wedding that reflects who you are and what you care about. For those reasons you do not have to follow tradition un- less you want to! Make your own instead. Any piece of your wedding can be omitted or adjusted to fit your vision and budget. Here, in no particular order, are some ideas. I. Have a family wedding - instead of the couple only - by including your chil- dren in the vows with hugs and kisses all around. 2. Buy a wedding gown in your favorite color and put the bridesmaids in white. 3. Toast with a signature drink instead of cham- pagne. 4. Have both sets of par- ents give away their son or daughter to the bride(s) or groom(s). 5. Instead of \giving away\ the bride, have each set of parents \take in\ the future spouse. (Not liter- ally, of course. They don't want you living with them!) 6. Let your bridesmaids wear cocktail dresses with a color or style theme rather than those made specifi- cally as bridesmaid dresses. 7. Let the guys wear suits instead of renting tuxes. 8. Carry ferns instead of flowers. 9. Make the bouquets from buttons, brooches, or paper instead of flowers. 10. Instead of guests throwing rice or bird seeds as you come out of the church, play music and have everyone dance. II. Go bareheaded instead of wearing a veil or hat. 12. Hold the ceremony some place besides a church. 13. Skip the guest book and opt for a creative way to remember your guests - a thumbprint wishing tree or wishing rocks, for exam- ple. 14. Set up a self -serve drink station instead of full service bar. 15. Instead of best man and maid of honor speeches, have those in the wedding party share their best story. 16. Have groomspeople and bridespeople instead of -maids and -men, mixing genders according to friendships or relation. 17. See each other before the wedding. 18. Toss something fun, like bride and groom bears or candy instead of the bou- quet and garter. 19. Feed each other some- thing besides cake - another dessert or favorite entree. Cord of Three Strands ceremony The cord of three strands ceremony (often called \God's Knot\ or the Unity Braid cer- emony) symbolizes the join- ing of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage rela- tionship. If you have strong spiritual beliefs, you may want to add this short ceremony to- ward the end of the wedding. Every time you think back on your wedding ceremony it will remind you of how God is intimately involved in your marriage. The Cord of Three Strands is a symbol of that sa- cred union created on your wedding day. The Cord of Three Strands is a great addition to a tradi- tional wedding ceremony. It adds a truly unique element to your ceremony that friends and family will remember. It can also serve as a substitute for the unity candle. This is useful for situations where candles may not be used, or may be difficult. The Cord of Three Strands works well as a substitute in outside wed- dings. During the wedding cere- mony, the bride and groom braid the Cord of Three Strands together. The groom holds a small metal ring with three attached strands. The bride then braids the strands together, symbolizing the union of God, husband and wife. While braiding the Cord of Three Strands, you may wish to have someone read an ex- planation of the ceremony. You may also simply play music or have a song sung. What is the significance of the colors of the. cords Gold strand represents God: The divinity of God is repre- sented in gold. This covenant relationship is initiated by Him, will be built under His authority, and is intended to glorify Him. Purple strand represents the groom. As a new creation in Christ, the majesty of the groom is represented in purple. As the husband loves his wife and submits himself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will demonstrate His great love in the marriage relationship. White strand represents the bride: Having been cleansed by salvation in Christ, the pu- rity of the bride is represented in white. As the wife honors her husband and submits her- self to the Lord, the Lord in turn will nurture and strengthen the marriage rela tionship. Marriage takes three: you, your soon -to -be spouse, and God. It was God who taught us to love. By keeping Him at the center of your marriage, His love will continue to bind you together as one throughout your marriage.
