The advisory council was focused on making the most of the resources available to combat noxious weeds,\ said State Weed Program Manager Dave Burch. The advisory council met the first week of March to review applications and make selections to assist counties, local communities, tribes, researchers, and edu- cators. In total, 82 grant pro- posals were awarded funding, including 57 local cooperative projects, 14 re- search projects, and 11 edu- cation projects. Each of Montana's 56 counties and seven reservations are eligi- ble to receive $7,500 per year tor this effort and an emergency noxious weed fund is maintained if a nox- ious weed emergency oc- curs. The Montana Noxious Weed Trust Fund grant pro- gram was established by the Montana Legislature in 1985. The advisory council review applications, hears applicant testimony, and provides funding recom- mendations to the director for final approval.
