A local fund helping community mem- bers in time of need could become one of those causes for you. The Community Fund Drive is a collab- orative effort made by two local sorority groups, Preceptor Psi and Xi Alpha Nu. Preceptor Psi began helping the Baker Chamber of Commerce go door-to-door to collect funds to help people many years ago. The Chamber eventually asked Pre- ceptor Psi to take over. They solely held the responsibility for about 15 years. About five years ago, Xi Alpha Nu joined the funding efforts. A committee made up of members from both groups administers the funds. For several years the groups annually walked door-to-door to ask for donations. but this year did not due to lack of mem- bership. A booth was set up at the South- eastern Montana Health Fair to recvi‘e donations but not much was given. Last year, donations of S I 3,9(X) were col- lected and $12000 was distributed to com- munity members. So far this year. S8,750 has been distributed but only $4.562 has been collected. \We would like to tell the people of Fal- lon County we are putting this money out that we are collecting.\ said Barb Keller - ling, Xi Alpha Nu member. \We are almost depleting our account and are going to have to lessen the amount we give to peo- ple to keep the funds solvent. We don't want to deplete the fund when we still want to help.\ All Community Fund Drive donations collected are distributed back to commu- nity members to defray medical expenses or for other disastrous events. \It's a great thing for the community. It does help,\ Ketterling said. \We get a lot of positive feedback from people who re- ceive it.\ No matter the amount, you can make a difference, donations can be sent to Com- munity Fund Drive. PO Box 191, Plevna, MT 59344 or dropped off at the Bank of Baker anytime during the year. A collec- tion jar is also in place at the Bank of Baker. For more information or questions, call in Plevna 406-772-5831 or in Baker 406-778-2566.
