The Volunteer Fire Dept. was called out to an oil well fire Feb. 7. When the fire whistle blew it rang a long steady blast, which is the wrong signal for a fire. That is the signal for a weather warn- ing. Fire Chief Randy Hoenke said the wrong signal didn't interfere with getting firemen to the fire. . . Baker High School wrestlers who are going to the state meet are Bryan Hastig, Nathan Beck, Will Bagley, and Colton Corn- well. . . Mayor Clayton Hor- nung told council members he had visited with Roger Meg- gers concerning exploration of gas wells at the airport.The city has plans with Loma En- ergy to drill two wells north of the airport... At the February Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture meeting, Karol Zachmann announced that a new doctor was on staff at Fal- lon Medical Complex. Jeffrey was born Jan. 25. weighing 8 lbs. 6 3/4,. oz. and measuring 21 inches long. . . Low tempera- ture Feb. I was -35 degrees... Bennie Bechtold will be hon- ored at halftime of the St. Labre basketball game Feb. 10. Bechtold served as head custodian for BHS from 1973 until his recent retirement in Dec. 1995. . . Dale Boggs of Baker has been elected presi- dent of The Professional In- surance Agents of Montana for the 1995-96 term. . . Mayor Kelly Coldwell has pro- claimed Feb. 14 as American- ism Day. Guest speaker will be Lt. Governor Dennis Re- hberg... Four members of the Senior Webelos Den of Cub Scouts Pack 256 and two den leaders attended the Short Grass District Klondike, Jan. 27. The four Scouts were Dustin Briggs, Brandon Car- t isser. Blake Parini and Itt Riley Stanhope. Den lead- ers attending were Jim Iluf- ford and Richard Baggs. . A break-in occurred at Baker High School some time after the game Feb. 2. One or more persons entered several class- rooms and the main office. Concession and gate money from the game was stolen as was money from classrooms. Vandalism also occurred in some of the rooms. 30 YEARS AGO Thursday, February 6,1986 - Baker Spartan wrestlers take second place at Divisionals last weekend and Huntley Project repeated its divisional championship. Nine wrestlers qualified for the state wrestling tournament next weekend at Cut Bank. . . Pa- trolman Pat Harrison was kept quite busy last week. Although the highways were in the best condition they have been since the onset of winter, five acci- dents occurred between Jan. 29 and Feb. Dahl. .. R.R. Stevens, who has been the manager of the Bagley Eleva- tor since August 1938, re- signed this week due to serious eye trouble. His suc- cessor is Clarence B. Hand of Miles City... He is returning home after receiving his discharge from Camp McKoy. 80 YEARS AGO Thursday, February 6,1936 - Sub -zero weather prevailing for nearly a month was cli- maxed today with a high wind and the temperature 16 below at the noon hour. Numerous students arrived a the Baker schools with badly frosted faces and hands. At noon school was dismissed for the day. Reports from the south country are that farmers are losing cattle for want of food and shelter. 90 YEARS AGO Thursday, February 11, 1926-- Dr. WTI. Blakemore was elected president of the Commercial Club. . . Banker U.S. Himsl of the First State Bank of Plevna passed through Baker Sunday evening on his way to Min- neapolis where he will attend to business matters relative to the bank. . . Supt. A. Gullidge wa re-elected superintendent of the Baker schools. Denzil R. Young and II.S. Proctor were made members of the school board District No, 18 Monday evening at the regular meeting of the board and will fill the places of E.O. Lentz and R.A. Lyman. Patchwork Quilt Guild Submitted by Joan Graunmond The Guild met Jan. 12 with six members present. Election of officers was held with last year's officers being re- elected. Members sewed on their own unfinished projects. We spent much time dis- cussing ideas for projects for the new year. For the February meeting, we are asking each member to bring their first quilt or the oldest quilt one still has to the meeting. Deb Barth will be bringing a basket to auction containing sewing items. The highest bidder will take it home and bring it back next month with new items to bid on. Our project for February will be a Stitch and Fold wreath. These can be for any season or holiday. Bring three fabrics of about a yard each. Also bring some double sided fusible foam stabilizer. Score a touchdown with this delicious, quick to fix: Buffalo Chicken Dip Prep time: 15 minutes Total time: 30 minutes Serves: 24 1 Rotisserie chicken, shredded 8 oz. low fat cream cheese 1/3-2/3 C. hot sauce 1 packet dry Ranch Dressing mix 1 C. Greek yogurt Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl mix cream cheese, Ranch packet, hot sauce and Greek yogurt until well mixed. (If cream cheese is difficult to mix, microwave it for a few seconds and try again.) Add in the shredded chicken and combine well. Pour mixture into an 8\x8\ baking dish and bake 15-20 minutes or until dip is hot throughout. If desired, top with sliced green onions or crumbled blue cheese and serve hot.
