FALI,ON COUNTY TIMES FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2016- 3 S I Rudolf John Dobeck Rudy Dobeck passed away from Parkinson's disease at his home at The Jefferson, a re- tirement community in Arling- ton, Va., where he resided with his wife of 63 years, Daisy Es- ther Dickenson Dobeck. He was a former Plevna resident and was a son of the Reverend Robert Dobeck and Dorothea Rail Dobeck who were pas- tors/missioners of Evangelical German Congregational Churches of North America from 1922-1950. Rev. Dobeck served the Plevna church from 1939-1946. Rudy was bap- tized as an infant and con- firmed by his father in 1940. The seven children born to this union dedicated most of their earnings from their labors and volunteer time during their formative years to support and serve their parents and churches that served God. Rudy graduated from Plevna High School in 1944. He fre- quently attended class re- unions and was commencement speaker in 1974. In 1980, he published a \Biographical Photo Annual for the Class of '44 Reunion\. Rudy had very fond memories of his home and friends in the Fallon County area - his roots and values were established there. While living in Plevna, he worked for the Buergi Store, Weinschrott Hardware, and the Westmore Section of Milwaukee Railroad. On grad- uation from, high scb t ool,, he, worked for the Kaiser Ship - Yards in Vancouver, Wash. It 1944, he was rejected from the draft because of myopic vi- sion. He was accepted to the US Army under the \work or fight law\ in February 1945 by resigning his defense shipyard job. He served in the Army of Occupation Forces in Japan from September 1945 to No- vember 1946. He was honor- ably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He entered college under the GI Bill and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1950 and a Master of Busi- ness Administration from Xavier University in Cincin- nati, Ohio. His assignments in- cluded senior positions at the headquarters of JC Penney and Associated Dry Goods in New York City, Federated De- partment Stores in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1984, he transferred to Federated Department Stores' Filene's Company in Boston, Mass. He retired in Boston in 1991 as vice presi- dent of properties. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Emil, Vernon and Robert; a sister, Doris; and sister-in-law, Louise Dobeck. Survivors in addition to his wife, Daisy; include three chil- dren and their spouses, Robert Bradley Dobeck and Jessie - Kay Weili Cheng of Arlington, Va., Victoria Dobeck Davey and Richard Davey of Bethesda, Md., and Peggy Pearson and Neil Pearson of Champaign, Ill.; six grandchil- dren, Dylan Frances Davey, Carl William Pearson, Neil David Pearson, Jr., Elizabeth victoria Pearson and Emma Leigh Davey. Rudy . is also sur- vived by two brothers, Ben- jamin Dobeck and wife Ingrid of Kingsport, Tenn., and Hel- mut Richard (Mac) Dobeck of Las Vegas, Nev. and Terra Alta, West Va.; 23 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Mar. 19, 2016 in Arling- ton, Va. His remains will be inumed at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. O'Donnell running for Public Service Commission By Sherry Vogel Republican candidate for Public Service Commission Tony O'Donnell announced his candidacy for the District No. 2 seat Feb. 22. He is run- ning against Republican Kirk Bushmen who has held the seat for one four-year term. O'Donnell is distributing his news releases by visiting newspaper offices throughout District 2. District 2 encom- passes ten counties including Fallon, Carter, Custer, Powder River, Prairie, Rosebud, Yel- lowstone, Carbon, Big Horn and Treasure. O'Donnell, not related to the local O'Donnells, was born and raised in San Diego, Cali- fornia. He has been a resident of Billings for the past 22 years. While supporting local con- servative candidates, O'Don- nell has run three times for state legislature, losing by nar- row margins. O'Donnell states, \My constant goal on the PSC will be to guarantee Montana families and busi- nesses the lowest possible en- ergy rates and the most reliable delivery of that en ergy,\ said O'Donnell. \Af- fordability and reliability are my number one priorities.\ Building Better Beef FWP News Submitted by Kodie Olsen, 4-H Program Assistant The Fallon/Carter County Extension hosted a \Building Better Beef\ workshop for 4- H and FFA youth Feb. 13 at the Baker Senior Center. There were 21 youth who attended. Youth who are enrolled in an animal project either in the 4- H or FFA program are re- quired to attend a Livestock Quality Assurance class every other year and also when they change age groups. These classes offer the youth knowl- edge on the requirements in the care of their livestock proj- ect. The day was broken into two classes which were taught by MSU Extension Beef Special- Kodie Olsen showing youth how to tie a \rose- bud knot\ to finish their halters. Join us for a dance! Captive deer euthanizedi Forsyth couple charged with obstruction Miles City - Two Forsyth -area individuals were charged with ob- structing a peace officer after Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens confiscated a deer that was illegally held captive on their property. FWP warden captain Jack Austin said game wardens learned that an adult mule deer doe was being illegally held captive on pri- vate property north of Forsyth. Along with Rosebud County sher- iff's deputies, game wardens served a search warrant on the property Jan. 19, at which time they tranquilized and confiscated the captive deer. The deer was transported to a Miles City veteri- narian and euthanized. During the process of confiscat- ing the deer. Austin said, officers arrested the landowners, Daryl and Brenda Duncan, on misde- meanor charges of obstructing a peace officer. Any charges dealing with holding the deer captive are pending. FWP wildlife veterinarian Jen- nifer Ramsey said that. \for the benefit of all wild animals, folks cannot be allowed to keep them. It is hard for folks to understand that you can't allow some folks to keep wild animals, and not others. People are more accustometl to thinking about the welfare of the individual animal (like they do with their domestic pets), which is of course important.
