Sheriff Jones hot on trail Sheriff Jones spent practically all of last month in the southern part of the county on the trail of a gang of horse and cattle rustlers said to be operating in that section. When the sheriff gets through with his work there will be fewer complaints of this character. Several arrests have already been made and others may follow. In fact, Fallon County will be a most undesirable place for anyone engaged in the nefarious business of alter- ing brands or driving off cattle and horses. Lentz baby falls fourteen feet to bottom of cistern Phillip, the three -year -old child of Mr. and Mrs. E. 0. Lentz, fell to the bottom of a fourteen foot cistern Tuesday morning. Legal Tip of the Week Did you know ... that mortgage debt forgiven (cancelled) in foreclosure since 2013 is probably not tax- able? Forgiven debt is gener- ally treated as income, but the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act (Act) changes that. The Act says that much mort- gage debt forgiven 2013 through the end of 2016 will not be treated as income. Mortgage debt forgiven through mortgage restructur- ing is probably not taxable, ei- ther.
