Following are a couple of stories from back then. Baker H.S. to graduate three; May 30 Seniors of the Baker High School will hold the first commencement exercises in the history of this city at the opera house on Tuesday evening, May 30th as was announced the first of this week by in- vitations which were sent out by those who will receive their tliplo- mas on that evening. The commencement address on that evening will be made by the honorable Theodore Brantly, chief justice of the supreme court. Mr. Brantly's abilities as a speaker are well known and it is indeed an honor to have so distinguished a gentleman address the gradu- ates. On Sunday evening, May 28, the baccalaureate sermon will be preached by Rev. S.W. Pollard at the Congregational Church. The senior class this year is composed of Beatrice Emma Daugh- erty, Bessie Lillian Millard and Harold Ellsworth Patton. The motto of the class is \Excelsior\, the colors are lavender and white while the flower is the white carnation. During the past year the Baker high School has made a mar- velous development and can now be classed along with the high schools of the state. The first commencement exercises is one of the proofs of the rapid strides which the institution of learning has made. Another proof is the sending of contestants in declamatory and field athletics to the state meet and while no prizes were won it has shown to the others schools of Montana that Baker has some- thing here that is worth while. Ismay man sees great change in brief time \In the short space of a year and a half,\ said W.C. Hamilton, the Ismay stockman, \there has been a remarkable change in the city of Baker, a change which passes unnoticed by one who has been a resident here during the period.\ Mr. Hamilton came on a bee -line from Scotland to Ismay 16 years ago. lie has been a successful stockman, but is going in for diver- sified farming. Many a duck will quack his last quack tomorrow Bright and early tomorrow morning the nimrods will sally forth to the shores of Lake Baker, a favorite haunt of the wild duck, Sep- tember 1st being the first day of the open season for aquatic birds.
