FALLON COUNTY TIMES FRIDAY, NIAY 20, 2016 -5 Plevna School Notes Mrs. Sparks and the senior class at the Junior/Senior Banquet. Junior/Senior Banquet and Senior Night The Junior/Senior Banquet was held May 13 at the Plevna Community Center. A delicious supper of pork loin, mashed potatoes, corn and salad was served. After sup- per, Layne Silver -Fan - is pre- sented gag gifts to the graduating seniors. Mrs. Ben- ner presented a game of firsts between the parents and the seniors. Questions spanned from when your first hair cut was to who your first celebrity crush was. The sen- iors each shared a favorite memory and included special thanks to their family and teachers. Mrs. Sparks had a rose for each of the seniors to present to their parents, and everyone enjoyed a piece of cake with ice cream. The night was a fun way to reminisce high school memories and honor the senior class. The 7-12 band performing a song accompanied by Mrs. Bruha on the piano. Pops Concert By Jessica Stockett May 11, the Plevna band and choir finished the year with a spring pops concert. The 5-6 grade band played \Rio Bravo\ and \Dr Rock\. The 7-11 grade chorus sang \Down By the Old Mill Stream\ \The birth of Spring\ and a special song honoring the upcoming Olympic games. Next, Trinity Rieger, Jenna Paul and Taylor Bertsch presented a song from spring festival as a saxophone trio. They were National BPA By Jessica Stockett May 9, Jessica Stocken and Ms. Kirschten left early in the morning to depart to Boston, Mass. for National BPA. When they arrived, they drove through an underwater tunnel to reach their hotel. During the trip, they traveled to sev- eral different historical land- marks throughout the town. May 12 they went on a fa- mous Boston Duck Tour, in which guides drove tourists through Boston in an am- phibious vehicle from World War II. These vehicles trav- eled on both water and land and were used in the D -Day invasion. On the ceiling, there were signatures of the men who fought on that day. Be- fore arriving on the beaches, they would sign their names on the ceiling as a memory of that fateful day. After travel- ing through Boston as well as floating along the Charles River, they visited the Boston Tea Party Museum. here they re-enacted the historical event, as well as explored a ship that had been recreated like the original ship. After that tour, they visited the aquarium, seeing many differ- ent unique sea creatures, in- cluding a sea dragon and a giant sea turtle. May 13 the sun finally emerged from the clouds. In the morning Jessica competed in advanced accounting, then they participated in a walking tour of Boston, often referred to as the Freedom Trail. This trail stopped along many his- torical places, including the Old North Church, Paul Re- vere's grave, the site of the Boston Massacre and Faneuil Hall. After their walk, they traveled on a ferry to visit the USS Constitution. May 14, they boarded a bus at 8:30 a.m. to travel to Salem, Mass., site of the infamous Salem Witch Trials. There was a re-enactment of the tri- als and testimony, followed by a tour through the dungeon joined by Chloe Tudor, Dacy Buerkle and Ash- ley Sander for a mixed double trio, which also had received a I+ rating at festival. In conclusion, the 7-12 grade band played \In Search of the Lost Ship\ and \Cheyenne\. The spring concert was a fun ending to the school year for the Plevna band and choir. Graduating seniors Jessica Stockett and Dylan Sander were recognized and thanked for their many years of playing in the band. The morning of May 15 in- cluded a trip on the ocean where they traveled 30 miles out of Boston Harbor to see a group of whales feeding. Over 30 whales were sighted and they thoroughly enjoyed the trip despite sea sickness. That night was the awards cere- mony. Jessica placed 30th out of over 100 students. May 16, the two departed the hotel bright and early, re- turning home in time for the FM banquet. The trip was fun and an exciting opportunity to see the different sites of Boston. Dude Veroye enjoying lunch with first grade students Lunch with Superior Care Villa residents Plevna elementary students have been visit- ing residents at Superior Care Villa to read to residents throughout the past nine weeks. May II, four residents from Superior Care Villa - Mary Stark, Darline Ketterling, Goldie Sparks and Dude Veroye. accompanied by Judy Huf- ford and Marci Breitbach, made a visit to Plevna School to have lunch with the elemen- tary students. The students enjoyed this chance to interact with them. ACT scholarship Each year the Montana ACT orgainiation awards a $500 College and Career Readiness Scholarship to a high school senior. This year the award was received by Nicole Allerdings. May 12, the Montana Board of Public Edu- cation met in Great Falls at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind. Shannon Davidson from AC!' attended the meeting to present the award.
