Randy Hoenke I believe the most pressing issue is the decrease of oil and gas revenues. This means that we have to be very financially responsible to keep the county running smoothly. We need to keep and take care of the things that we already have. Fighting to keep our tax rev- enue in our own county Maintaining our infrastruc- ture, roads, bridges and cul- verts To recruit and retain quali- fied doctors, nurses and per- sonnel for our hospital and clinic. Our population is defi- nitely getting older and the need for medical care, as- sisted living and retirement housing is great. Mental health and chemical dependency. Roy Rost The role of the Commis- sioners is to serve their con- stituents, and as such it is the citizens' concerns that the Commissioners should find most pressing. Rather than pursuing a personal agenda I will focus on the issues that are important to the people. I realize that the interests and concerns of Fallon County citizens are varied and some- times in conflict. Two of the most frequent concerns ex- pressed to me include rural road conditions and the hos- pital. Every issue has multiple perspectives and I intend to examine those issues impar- tially in order to produce common sense solutions. Cer- tainly one pressing topic is the shrinking tax revenue, which directly affects all other is- sues. My work on Fallon County's Growth Policy has underscored for me the im- portance of planning for the future and wisely budgeting and managing tax dollars. We need to maximize the return on every dollar spent. It is also vital that there is trans- parency and accountability in all use of county funds. As Commissioner I want every voice to be heard and every point to be valued in making county decisions in order to best serve and respect the in- terests of the county and each individual. Kevin Dukart Our state legislature has in- truded on the financial re- sources that we depend upon to support our community. Our leaders must be vigilant to assure that the revenue re- mains in Fallon County. Our commission will need to con- tinuously advocate for a voice in Helena. The burden of increased regulations has weighed heavily on local governments. Although some are necessary. we must seek cost effective, common-sense alternatives. Communication of local con- cerns to state and federal offi- cials can ensure that practical solutions are addressed. In matters of significant public interest, my experience in local government has taught me that successful out- comes are derived with in- creased public participation. Public inclusion is essential in the decision -making process. Citizens should feel welcome to bring their concerns to the commission. Our local governing bodies are entrusted to meet the spe- cific needs of those they serve. The boundaries of these bodies must be re- spected. At times our com- mission is asked to make a collaborative effort with local leaders to improve the serv- ices in our community. Mu- tual respect and communication is vital to en- sure that these efforts are suc- cessful. Dave Havens Having traveled throughout Fallon County and spending time with a majority of the rural residents. I believe the most pressing issue that I have become aware of is the condition of the county roads. Let me first state that the con- dition of the roads did not just \happen\. The road issue has been ongoing for years past and it will take the coopera- tion and input of the current commission, the road depart- ment, and the public to solve the issues of narrowed roads, crowning and rutting, and road material deficiencies. We are a close and helping com- munity. There must be an un- derstanding of all entities involved that there are guide- lines for the roads. If we uti- lize the guidelines along with the publics input, I believe there can be uniformity of all the roads throughout Fallon County. We need to develop a working four to eight year plan to upgrade, remodel and have a consistent mainte- nance plan for all roads. I firmly believe this is an achievable goal that can be reached and I look forward to working with everyone in- volved. The roads in Fallon County are crucial for the safety of the fire department, our ambulance service, school buses transporting children to and from school and for county residents to travel to obtain emergency services. In addition, other pressing issues I believe we need to be con- cerned with is our fiscal re- sponsibility in a depressed economy, continued support for our medical resources, availability and transparency of the commission board, continued support of our rural and city fire departments along with our department of emergency services.
