FALLON COUNTY TIMES FRIDAY, MAY 20,2016 - 9 Hannah Goerndt wins state InvestWrite Competition There isn't an app for that, which is exactly why 12 year old Hannah Goemdt of Baker be- came a state winner of the SIFMA Founda- tion's Fall 2015 InvestWrite® competition. Hannah, a seventh grader at Baker Middle School, won first place for the state of Mon- tana in the middle school division of Invest - Write. The program challenges students to consider an investing scenario and make rec- ommendations that incorporate short and long term goals. \Hannah's innovative ideas for an investing app earned her the SIFMA Foundation's 'In- vestWrite Genius' title this year,\ said Melanie Mortimer, president of the SIFMA Founda- tion. \We commend her on this achievement and praise her teacher, Dena Kirschten, for bringing personal finance into the classroom with The Stock Market Game and InvestWrite Studies have shown these programs raise stu- dents' scores significantly on math, econom- ics, and personal finance tests and prepare them for life's financial decisions.\ InvestWrite serves as a culminating activity for 600,000 4-12 graders nationwide who compete each year in the SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game\' , an online simulation of the global capital markets that reinforces STEM learning, 21st Century skills, econom- ics, investing and personal finance. Since In- vestWrite's inception in 2004, more than 185,000 students have submitted essays. Han- nah Goemdt is among 20,000 students this year taking the InvestWrite challenge, which bridges classroom learning in mathematics, social studies, and language arts with the prac- tical research and knowledge required for long-term personal financial planning. In her essay, Goemdt was challenged to in- vent a new app that could serve as a long-term investment tool. She was asked to discuss the features of the app and how the app would be helpful to people when making important de- cisions for their financial future. Goemdt said in her essay, \Invest Mate is the all new app for investing. This app helps you make better investment decisions. Invest Mate can tell you about almost every stock's history and its pre- dictions. This app can also tell you what could potentially happen if you buy this stock!\ InvestWrite enables students like Goemdt to develop the personal financial savvy needed to make practical financial decisions with con- fidence and gain a deeper understanding of economic opportunities, consequences, and benefits. Students consider real -world events and news, conduct research online, and de- velop investment recommendations. They work in groups during the Stock Market Game program and then write their InvestWrite es- says individually to reflect their critical think- ing, analysis and creative talents. The Stock Market Game and InvestWrite are Left to right: Mrs. Stickney, Mrs. Brenner and Mrs. O'Connor. Teacher Retirement May 14, three of the Plevna staff were hon- ored with a retirement party. Mrs. Stickney has taught in the Plevna School for 45 years. Mrs. Brenner has a total of 39 years of teaching, 26 in Isabel, SD and 13 years at Plevna. Mrs. O'- Connor, the school's administrative assistant, has worked at Plevna School for 26 years. Mrs. Walker had a retirement survival kit for each employee with such items as a penny to start their retirement fund; Calgon - to take them away; bag of marbles to replace the ones they lost while teaching; Kit Kat - they need a break today. They will be missed in the hallowed halls of Plevna School. 4-4-4 ELECT Dave kit HAVENS for Fallon County Commissioner offered in Montana through the Montana Council on Economic Education. \We honor and congratulate our InvestWrite winning stu- dent Hannah Goerndt and her teacher Dena Kirschten,\ said Dax Schieffer, executive di- rector of the Montana Council on Economic Education. \Helping Montana students better understand our economy, our markets, the role of investors, and how to make good invest- ment will pay future dividends for the stu- dents, their education, and the Montana economy.\ Winning InvestWrite essays are chosen through rigorous judging by thousands of teachers and industry professionals who eval- uate students' understanding of long-term in- vesting, diversification, the capital markets, and factors that drive investments as well as their expression of investment ideas in essay form. An independent study by Learning Point As- sociates found that students who participated in the SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game scored significantly higher on mathe- matics and financial literacy tests than their peers who did not participate. They also found that teachers who taught The Stock Market Game reported that the program motivated them to better plan for their own financial fu- tures. The Stock Market Game has been named the only program that successfully in- creased scores on the Iumpstart Coalition's test of high school students' financial literacy. Following is the winning essay by Hannah Goerndt. Invest Mate Invest Mate is the all new app for investing. This app helps you make better investment de- cisions. Invest Mate can tell you about almost every stock's history and its predictions. This app can also tell you what could potentially happen if you buy this stock. The menu for Invest Mate includes, Home, Watch, High and Low, and Ask. In Home, there are tips on what you should buy, the highest stock, and how much you are making. When you go into Home you will also find links for websites that include valuable news on stocks. You can also see the stocks that most people are buying that get a lot of money if you buy them at the right time. In Watch, a search button will come up that. if you search a stock in it, you can see the his- tory and predictions for that stock. Watch also tells you the news about stocks that are going up and why they are going up. Watch can also bookmark certain stocks you want to keep track of. These are some of the reasons Invest Mate would be great too use as soon as you buy it. In High and Low, you can see the highest and lowest stocks and their information and predictions. High and Low shows you a list of stocks. On the left side, it has the lowest stocks and on the right side it has the highest stocks. You can also click on a stock and it will take you to a new page that has the stock and its in- formation. In Ask, a search bar will pop up that allows you to ask a question and get possible answers if you hit the ask button. This installment was made so that if you ever have a question or a problem, you can just look it up and find the answers. Ask can also search questions you might have on stocks along with questions about the app itself. When you first go into Invest Mate, you will find a page that says, \Welcome to Invest Mate! In this app you will find easier ways to get tips on what to invest in.\ At the top, you can make an account or you can just look openly. However, if you don't make an ac- count, you will not have access to all features of this app. Gone is the time wasted day after day and night after night searching endlessly for infor- mation on investing. This is why Invest Mate is the best investing app to get.
