Fallon County Commissioners ac- cepted a $7,570,000 bid from Hardy Construction Company of Billings to build an addition onto the east end of Fallon Medical Complex. The project will include the construction of an additional 12 two -bed- room apartments, a new public health building and a new kitchen and dining room wing for FMC. . . Mammo Whammo Golf Tournament held July 9 and 68 golfers par- ticipating. The tournament raised close to $10,000 in funds and were pledged to- wards a new coagulation blood machine for the lab. First place team consisted of Gye Varner, Mike Griffith, Mark Ferrell and John Grif- fith. . . Second annual Jim Stanton Memorial Golf Tour- nament was held July 1 with 70 golfers participating. First place team members included Carson Beach, Dallas Newell, Neal Susa, Dustin Varner, and John Breitbach. . . Montana youth, ages 13-18 years, are painting the state with warn- ings about meth use. Drivers on Montana Avenue (Highway 12) in Baker will take note of the large sign on the side of the 'N Styl building just before the four-way stop when driv- ing from the west. This sign was designed and painted by Bret Sander, son of Wayne and Gaye Sander. 20 YEARS AGO Friday, July 12, 1996 -- Bill and Betty Hopkins will cele- brate their 50th wedding an- niversary July 21 in Miles City. . . This year's Fallon County Day held in Baker July 4 provided lots of fun in the sun for everyone. Winners of the volleyball games were: 1st - Brea MacKay, Rodney Bech- told, Doug Bechtold, Chad Shepherd, Katie Schriver and Christina Townsend; 2nd - Pat and Sharon Harrison, Lou and Kevin Egland , Todd Anderson and Sara Welk. . . Ed and Regina Bruha will celebrate their 40th wedding anniver- sary July 21 in Buffalo, SD... Kerry (Murphy) Boisvert of Ithaca, NY was the instructor for an obedience clinic held July 2 at the Fallon County Fairgrounds for 4-11 members enrolled in the dog project. Shipmates on the \SS Enema\ were Susie Quenzer, Bernice Njos, Tracy Zachmann, Debbie Roberts, Linda Moore, and Dr. Patty Huguley. . . Delaine Hickey set the pace for all golfers Sunday, posting a 39 for nine holes and receiving top honors for the day. Second was Rod Chaska with 41 and Dave Hutchings with 42 for third place. For the women, Flo- rence Groshans and Shannon Granat posted 57s Sunday, tying for first place, only one stroke ahead of Sherry Mei- dinger of Bowman (58). . . Myhre reunion will be held July 18-20 at Camp Need - more.. . Stella Plummer was honored on her 95th birthday over the 4th of July weekend. . . . A severe wind hit the Willard community Friday evening. Gales over 60 mph were reported, scattering hay windrows. It was hoped the wind would blow away the grasshoppers, but as many blew in as blew away.. . Tom Price plans an extensive bike clinic for his Eagle Scout proj- ect. The clinic will be held July 26. 40 YEARS AGO Thursday, July 8, 1976 -- An estimated 2000 people were in Marmarth Sunday as the Little Missouri Saddle Club presented their 12th an- nual 4th of July rodeo. Connie Bruha was crowned Marmarth Rodeo Queen of 1976-77. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bruha... If you're wonder- ing if the Bicentennial activi- ties and the All Class Reunion were successful, let us relate a few facts to you. When the numbers were totaled, it showed that over 1,000 had registered for the all class re- union. The Jaycee sponsored \Anything Goes\ sold 1340 tickets. Sunday night the Chamber of Commerce and Bicentennial Committee's fireworks display, one of the best ever seen in Baker, had a crowd of around 2,003 people. . . Three men received the distinction of being the best dressed faces in Baker. The Commissioners accepted her resignation and appointed Es- ther Gunderson as County Treasurer. . . Roland Gift an- nounces this week that his new building has been opened for routine tire business at his new location just west of Dreher's Studio on Highway 12. 70 YEARS AGO Thursday, July II, 1946 -- Baker is to have a new plum- mer. He is Don Morrow of Billings who is here with his wife and three children. He will operate the business from his home shop. . . John Meccage, south of Baker, is not allowing anything like a 100 percent hail loss keep him from building his new home. Denzil Young, Jr. arrived home Wednesday night from West Point, New York after being recently discharged from the Army. . . Plevna has been very busy the past two weeks completing their water system. 80 YEARS AGO Thursday, July 16, 1936 -- Baker Fire Dept., under the management of James Ovens, Jr., is having fire drills twice a week for the purpose of in- specting hydrants and to get experience in getting water as fast as possible in the desired location. . . High temperature reported for the week was 106 degrees. . . A huge crowd at- tended the Townsend picnic at Wildwood Park Thursday, but scheduled speakers, prostrated by heat, were unable to appear. 90 YEARS AGO Thursday, July 15, 1926 -- After three and a half years as a minister in Fallon County churches, the Rev. Arthur See- bert has resigned. Rev. Seebert founded the Community Church... Mr. and Mrs. Haga- man and family of Plevna left by car for Jordan where they will make their home. . . Ernest Heinrich, proprietor of the Baker Creamery, left Mon- day for Rush City, Minn. where he will take care of mat- ters concerning his deceased father's estate. Local pictures Sat.and Sun. The management of the Owego Theater will spring a new and novel surprise on Saturday and Sunday nights by show- ing a great many pictures of local people on the screen. The pictures are being made this week by Charles A. Sar- tain, one of the oldest camera men on the road and an expert with the Graflex camera. We will have the pleasure of seeing the people of Baker in every day life, many of the pictures funny and all of them good and comprising the widest possible range of interest. Mr. Sartain has carted a camera from Old Mexico to Alaska, and his pictures have pleased thousands of people in almost every state in the union, so that the management of the the- ater feel that they are really fortunate in securing his pictures for this date.
