Petty Thieves Who Need Looking After -A Building Boom in Pro- gross- -Should R pair the . Park, Etc. ELKHORN, March 28, 1887. To the Editor of the Sentinel. Pursuant to few remarks made in these columns a week ago concern- ing larceny which is being perpe- trated in this camp, both petit and grand, mention may be made of an- other 'outrage comnaitted ht -re !rat Thursday night. A gentlemen, C -a rancher from Willow creek. came to it town Thuraday morning , a load of produee--•among otbl etriings 240 dozen eggs. During the day he his- pfee‘d - of 42 dove' aed in the even.: ing feeling that the remainder would be safer in a building, put them in the meat martiet of Ilat Gutherie, and during a temporary absence of Mr. Gutkerie, unknown parties en- tered.the market and removed the eggs. There seems to be a malicious forgiving and a fiendish satisfaction +- Tnjoyed by some of the members!ef the town to steal arid destroy the property of others. What Elkhorn needs now is live member of Jeffer- son county's constabulary force- -one who will ferret out and hunt down these emissaries of Hades and put then) in durance vile. The building boom has struck Elk - bore, mildly. ' Theo. Furkin, the handaome bachelor merchant and co- tary public, is erecting a lerge frame building on upper Nlain street, 3400 feet, to be two stories high. On the lower floor he is to one a large gen- eral merchandise and Mrinshing store, while the second awn is to be util- ized as aim opera house --at least that is the reFort. Should this prove true Elkhorn will soot' rank with the first cities in the Territory in point cf aesthetic privileges. In regard to eiatne of its surround- ings Elkhorn is sadly behind the times. The public park, though eentrally located, is tumily need re- pair; :he bore ho eiding Labrador avenue on the elect, is down in many places, and some of t ha ffnuagains to- ward the tiorth part of the paile are out of repair.
