What class of workingmen labor under more dangerous circumstances or prexiuce more wealth to those who employ them? The money they receive as a geueral rule, fiuds its e ay back to coffers from where it came, and -is, practiall speaking, a ben- efit to the o3inpanies to sustain the wages of employee& Danger lurks every where in a large mine, yet the miners of the Corn. eteck go to work day by day with a light heart cognizant of the fact that they may rover return to the surface alive. Wives anl children, alive to the uncertainties of- a miner's life, pray for their safe return as eech morni ig and evening the fathers and husbe$ds with their dinner buckets trudge off to work in the lower levels. Money will support the wife and little ceildren whom they work for, but don't recompense them for the chances they take and dengers they brave. No; let them be well paid A brave man, a truer gentleman doiet walk God's green earth than our hard-working, honest miner. Let us respect him. Dr. Holloway, territorial veterinarian, has just returned from Investigating a widespread sickness sffectingeange horses in the aeighborhood ol Cartersville. The sickness is pronounced an enzootic malig- nant fever. From its being described tie enzootic it will understood that it is local in character and not contagioas, but af- ' fects large numbers of horees from some cause of local origin not immediately dis- coverable. Ha thinks the fatalities have been quite large, but from the fact that the horses are ou the range, it is difficult to determine to what extent deaths oc- curred. It is also difficult to treat these wild range horses. Affected animals that hare been taken up and are sufficiently doctile for treatment have done very well. Dr Holloway does not thiak this disease will last long nor spread much farther. IIe is also inclined to believe that it is the same disease that elected the horses on Len Lewis' ranch-Independent.
