Fifty-one quartz loCations in Jeffer- son county were recorded ita the office of the County Clerk and Recorder during the month of February, 1889. The Currin brothers, who are work- ing the Olhe mine, a few miles north- west of Boulder, last week struck an eighteen -inch body of ore which prom- ises to assay very high. John Berliin came down from the Lowland country 'yesterday and . brought some specimens from the Mountain Chief lode . in which he is intereked. The assays of the ore from this property show over a thou- sand ounces in silver to the ton. Some mining experts and operators went to the Bigfoot district Sunday to examine the Meat, Grizzly, and other properties io that section with a view to bonding tend - developing them this summer. Thelmen were brought out through the so icitation of Mr. James Williamson. - A rich strike of gold ore * has been made in the North Boulder lode ./ in the Lowland district. ,The 'mine 'is on ' a tributary of the North Boulderereek and about a mile and a half north of the latter stream. It is worked b . ' a man name' Mossbem and other Butte parties and' has a shaft down sixty feet, the shaft being entirely in the vein matter, neither wall having been found. The ore bas heretofore been copper and lead with about thirty-five ounces of silver. The new body of ere 'recently struck assays- 8200 in gold to the ton, mind if that holds out of course the property is one of the richest in the country. J. B. Brien and the O'Brien' boys have struck a handsome streak - in the Wolftone lode, Lowland district. The ore from the mine has never rim un- der 200 ounces of silver and a Tew (lays ago they came across a seam about three inches wide bearing al- most halfhornsil ver.the assays running 13,678 ounces to the tel. The main lead has not yet been found, the vein seebarng to have been broken in nu- merous small branches. A tunnel to search for the lead is now in 205 feet, and the rich seam is one of the many encountered in running the tunnel. The mine is about a mile and a half west of thé Ruby.. POLITICAL PÓINTERS. W. B. Gaffney, Esq., Boulder, is prominently mentioned for one of the Democratic nominations as Delegate to theConstitutional Convention. Geo. D. Greene, ' and Mr. Frank Harlow, of Boulder, are among the Republicans spoken of for the nomination as Delegates te the C'on- stitutional Convention. It is quite reliably stated that W. C. Whaley, of Bedford, would not de- cline -the Democratic nomination for Delegate to the Constitutional Con- vention from the Eleventh District, should it be tendered_him.. Hón‚ ` C‘îéldiv - ell \F.dWards is said to ábe a Candidate for the position of Re- ceiver at the United States Land Of- fice at Bozeman and it is understood that he is receiving very hearty' sup- - ; port from prominent Republicans in the Territory. Among the Democrats mentioned for the Constitutional Convention from the Eleventh District are Hon. Ed. Cardwell, of Cold Springs. Mr. G. - E. Pool. of Rademburg, and Judge J. R..Boyce and wife, parents The altitude of the three rummies were also given te favor time Hotnestake route, and, thestatement was so posi- tively made that lhe road _would be built by that route, that the Boulder people .felt that the town had received a very black eye. , However, a mimber of the business men met together at Cowan & Parker's office _last Thursday aftertmoon and after considering the matter appointed a eommittee to wait upön Gov. Hauser to see what could lee done in the matter: The commit- tee waited open that geetleman Fri- day And while he could give no en- couragement to the hope that the 'de- termination to build by the I loûtestake Paes would be changed iu favor of Boulder, •r ho assured the committee that the line of the Helena, Boulder Valley & - Butte mad. would bss com- pleted to Butte this year and that a representation of the resources ' of the' Boulder valley might indmie the com- pany to build te brand' from Boulder to nconnection - with the limustake Pass line at th e mouth of the Boulder river. The committee accordingly . .prepared a paper showing the mineral, agricultural, and other resources which would furnish traffic for a mad down the valley. To this was - added a statement. showing that a branch from Gallatin to Butte by way of.. Mud Springs. DogtoWn, Boulder, and the Lowlands Pass wculd be but seventy- seven mike; ¡hat thirteen miles of this line, Mon Boulder to Calvin's, is already milt and in operation; that if the Elk orn branch is built nine miles. ot' it w uld be on the same line; that Lowl da Pass is considerably lower than Hotnestake Pass and More acces- sible; and, finally, that from Calvin's could be built a branch to Anaconda and Garrison which would make a saving of twenty miles in distance Over the route around by Bette. \This statemènt has been forwarded to time Board of Directors of the Northern Pacitic Company, through Governor Hauser. In speaking of the choice of the Homestake Pass for the line to Butte, the Deer Lodge New North-West of last week said: \Doubtless the traffic and travel of Butte dentands great consid; eration. Otherwise the correct through line for the Northern Pacific railroad ia and always has been from Garrison right through the Oro Fino district and Boulder to Three Forks...43aving twenty miles distance and over a bet- ter line than either the Mullan, home- - stake, or Pipeatone. It will be built some day.\ • NEWS FROM WICKES. [Special Correspondence of THE AGE.] .
