POLIT1( 'AI, 11 sINTERS. ¡ EUREKA GULCH MINES. CONGRESS has made Tuesday, the 30th inst., a general holiday to be ob- served in commemoration of the cen- tennial anniversary of the Constitution of the Union. It should be appropri- ately observed by all citizens. s . . Among the Republicatis of Wines who are spoken of for Delegates to the Cons' titutional Convention `from that distriet are Dr. W. M. Bullard, Robert Fisher, and Jas. E: Sites. ' Hon. N. 'Merriman, of Jefferson, has been mentioned as a 'proboble Republican candidate for the Cosisti- tutional Convention from District No. 11, which embraces the larger part 01 Jetfermon county. .. ' The Missoula County district which includes Stevensville, Corvallis, and Miter preein As, have placed in î' )ht' as . eilegate to the Constitu- tional Convention W. J. Kennedy and John Kopp. The former . is a resident of the Bitter Root valley atol is serving lai second terni as ( '(111111v .‘t Commissioner. Copp is a resident of Bonner and has charge of the Mon- tana Improvement Company's mill at that place. . The apportionment of (14 -legates to the Republican conventions for the districts in which Jefferson county is interested, is made on the basis of. one delq.,rate for each precinct where any voté was polled and ene• delegate for each twenty-five votes or major frac- tion thereof cast for Thomas .11. Carter at the election last fall. The apportionment fin . the Democratic conventions is made in the soma way, using, however, the vitt» e;sa for Win.1 A. Clark as the basis, THE FOLLOWING PHYSICIANS in Mon- tana have been appointed Members of Cpensions boards: Dr. Win. T. Collins - Livingston; Dr. Wm. Treacy, Dr. Geo. H. Barbour, Dr. John M. Sligh, Hel- ena. Their duties are to examine applicants for pension or for increase of. pension. THE. FIRST NUMBER of the Bitter Root Bugle has reached Tile AGE office and is welcomed ai' coining from the hand of an old friend and from . the former county of the editor'. The Bugle is published at Grantsdale, near' the head of Bitter Root valley, in Missoula county t It is seven -column folio with patent 'inside. It is neatly printed and is as full of local news as could be expected where news is not plenty. John - N. Ileleno.] Frank Fulton, who has been driv- ing a prospect tunnel during the winter to tap a lode* he discovered late last fall, encountered the lode last week, finding some ore at the poin . of contact, though just how sv the pay chute is, our informan was un-_ able to say. Mr. Fulton has several leads adjacent to this one, all more er less developed, and in mifl eif Which good ore has been found. . 'Wilkinson and Glover have truck ore in their shaft ou the Lady Leith •!reet. It is the intention of these gentlemen to sink to a. depth of 110 feet, when they will drift on the vein. The idiot% on this property has been sunk with a Common Sense Whim, which has been put 'to a very severe teat durieg the winter, but has man- aged to handle the dirt, rock, and waterÀc pretty . goad shape. Glover and Wilkinson are \stayers\ from way bad:, besides being capital good fellows, and their many fricaute be' leased to' know Of their prospec- tive good fortune. C. B. Leith, on Shoofly Mountain, has uncovered some 'tine, looking ore on the surface of the Lády Leith. About all that is accessary to find ore on the surface of this mine is a plow and a hoe. It is a pity that this property cannot be taken hold of by somebody who' would put a little Money into it and develop it na it ought to be. \ There is hardly a ques- tion _but. what it could be made a great paying property. Good carbon- ate and silver -lead ore. can be found almOst anywhere on the surface, and the number of feeders to a great vein somewhere aro innumerable. Surface scratching never yet made a mine -- it takes isystematic development and depth. That there is good ore in the Lady Leith and plenty of it, seems to be a fact well understood by all min' - ers who are acquainted with the property. • Development work on the' Little Alma, on the same mountain, still progresses. The last reports from the mine stated that the face of the tun- nel was 290 feet into the hill, and had just 'encountered the lode. The own- ers of this property, which is ao doubt a valuable one, expected to find ore some time' ago, but several \mis takes of Moses\ were ‚ivado in running the tunnel, - and about the only re- markable thing (encerning the mine at present. is the fact that the tunnel . hasn't' been run out - of the mountain on a tramway. But now that the lode has - at least been found we should hear favorable reports from the prop- erty almost any day. The mine btu§ a shaft forty-five feet in depth, in the bottom of which carbonate ore was found assaying about 8100 per ton. The tunnel Will pass; under this shaft. about sixty feet giving a perpendicu- lar depth . at that point • of about 100 feet. The face of' the tunnel is now about eighty feet away front the ;shaft. Ill all probability ore will be found somewhere on the lode betwmn the point where the tunnel encounters the lode and the bottom of tle• shaft. The owners of . this property deserve sircresa, for they went to work With a von and ave' kept things humming It!! V. Hitel'. , KNOWLEDUE 'ľ0R MILLIONS.
