More about this newspaper

In Spring 1891, a rival to the Castle Mining Reporter appeared in Castle. At the end of May, the Tribune Publishing company was incorporated and in mid-June the first issue was published with George Birnie as editor and manager. The Castle Mining Reporter responded with caution “Castle, as present, is too small for one paper, but we welcome our contemporary and trust they may find the bed of journalism more pleasant to repose in than has the Reporter in Castle.” This concern was warranted as the Dec 24, 1892 issue contained the following “The Castle Tribune with this issue suspends publication until such times as the town and camp will more nearly support two live newspapers”. Based on the one surviving issue (March 12, 1892), the Tribune was a mix of local news, state news, and entertaining stories and facts.
