More about this newspaper

Castle News was the first newspaper published in Castle from March 15 through September 13, 1888. Even in that short time saw a change in ownership when the June 7th issue included a notice from L. Peavey the original editor-publisher announced his retirement from the newspaper. Included in his letter is his regret that “he has not made the News what he would have liked”. It seems that the second owners, the Schlosser Brothers, felt the same after a few months, stating in the Sept 13th issue that they were “compelled to suspend publication until such time as we are warranted in continuing the same by the increased development of the camp and prospects.” During publication, the News carried a combination of local and state news, with the secondary focus being other news, particularly mining, from the rest of the West. Little time was spent on national news or anything happening in the East. Perhaps of interest, L. Peavey would, in 1892, become Secretary of the Castle Tribune Publishing Co. Another paper which would stop publication due to the lack of sustainability provided by Castle.
