START THE CRACKER M ILL.m Great Bodies of Ore on the Ceded Strip to be Gotten Ready for Market immediately. Work was begun on the property of tho Michigan and Montana Copper Min ing and Smelting company, which re cently consolidated with the A. M. Esler Mining company, Monday when a force of men was put to work stoping out ore preparatory to running it through the ten-stamp mill. The mines of tho company are in the Swift Current mining district on the ceded atrip of the Blackfoot Indian res ervation in Teton couuty, five miles from MUST PAY FOR BRIDLES. Tuvlor nnd Editor Trescott were visitors in Dupuyer a day or two the first of tho week. At a mooting of the school bonrd last Tuosduy aftornoon, Trustees Humble and Magee proseut, Miss Finn was chosen as teacher in our public school. Miss Finn is a recent arrival from the enst and is a sister of Mrs. Arnold of this place. Sho comes highly recommonded and will give satisfaction to the patrons of tho school. Grandpa England's health has not been as good as could havo been desired for the laet few woeks and ho contemplates returning to Texas this fall to spend tho wintor, in the hope that tho chango of climate will provo beneficial. We believe Dupuyer has a baseball team that would bo pleased to arrange for a game with tho Choteau club, the first game to be plnpod on the Dupuyor grounds. Magee, of Dupuyer, Thomas Manix was «oquif o chargo of involuntary mat.- er for having caused the death ot Joseph Schnrbaek on June 17th laet. The prosecution was conducted by County Attorney Jaines Sulgrove, wlnlo the prisoner's interests were looked after by Attorney Ericksou, of Choteau. The throwing of tho rock, by Manix, which caused the death of Scbarbncb, was admitted, but tho testimony of sll the witnesses. failed to establish tlie fact that Manix threw it with the intention of killing or seriously ipjunug bin), but that the affair wns one wholly without auger by all purties concerned. The action of the officials in this case meets with the approval of the taxpayers, nnd if the Great Foils Tribune is now satisfied that there is nothing “ mysterious” nbout the case it will probably rost for all time. Altyn and are called the Cracker group. Now that the consolidation bus been formed the work of development will be pushed rapidly and tbo mine will be opened up. The A. M. Esler Mining company bad a three nnd a bait year bond nnd leaso on tho mine dating from last June, but upon tho death of Esler last September work almost ceased. The new company has been capitalized for 300,000 shares of §1 each. Fifty thous and dollars was allowed tho A. M. Esler company for tho improvements nnd work done at the mine. Tho concentrator which has a capacity of one hundrod tons of ore a day had just been completed when Mr. Esler died. It has never been in operation, aud according to present calculations will bo put in operation in July. Tho property consists of elovon claims, four of which aro upon tho Cracker lead, six upou the Bullshoad nnd ono two miles down the canyon from the Bulls- head. “ We have 7,500 inches of water rights” said Walter Sbobe, formerly secretary of the A. M. Esler oompnny. “Tho upper tunnol of tho Cracker has been driven into tbo mountain 275 feot with an ad ditional 100 feet ot crosscuts. This work showod tbo voin betwoon tho walls to bo fifty foet in width. Tho ore averages eight por cent in copper nnd SI in gold and silver. Tho lower Cracker tunnel wns run 210 feet before striking fho vein nnd has boon pusliod along tbe loft wall for 175 feot nt which point a crosscut wns run, showing tbo vein thirty-five feet wido between tbo walls. “ We have yot to go a distance of 500 feot in tunnel No. 1, whon we will begin to atope up, and will then bo 3,000 feet from tho top of the mountain. “A number of improvement» will bo made nt the mine lator and a larger forco of msu will bo put on.\ Great Northorn Passonger Held Up. Havre, July 3.—Passonger train No. 3 on the Great Northern railroad was hold up tlireo miles enst of Malta nt 3 p. in. today by three men, who for a broad day light robbery beat anything on record. Tho tram arrived at Havre at 7 p. in. The lop of the baggngo car wns blown off and tho interior demolished. Tho wires wore cut by tbo robbers. Brakemnu Woodsides wns shot in tho arm, ono child was shot in the arm, and tho traveling auditor was also shot in tho arm. Sheriff Grifliiths, of Valley county, was on the train and mndo.n fight. The year was one of tho most successful in tho history of tho district, tho incrcnso iu the number of entries being between fivo and ten per cent ns compared with tho fiscal year 1900.
